as someone who used to work for cable and used to schedule these techs to come to people's houses, the moral of the story here is this: NEVER assume the cable guy will "only have to look at this one thing". even if it was really just your modem, most QA requirements involve checking all lines of service before leaving, whether there's a service issue or not. if he fixes your modem andd a week later your cable box craps out, that goes on the tech.
also, as someone who personally knows several cable techs, i can say with absolute certainty that your grow wasn't even the weirdest thing he saw that week. they see all sorts of shit and pretend they don't. honestly they are more scared of losing their job than anything, and keeping their eyes on their own paper is a big part of that. they don't want problems with anyone, they just want to do their work and go home.
if anything, if he's a scum he might try to rob you, but for reasons i already mentioned, that's unlikely. for all he knows you could be a drug lord armed to the teeth. all he cares about is that you don't tell his boss he didn't wear his OSHA booties.
