Can a Sativa and an Indica be grown together in a DWC setup?

Hi there

I hope you all are well.

I have a quick question. I have a a Rubbermaid storage tote that I converted for dwc setup. Its large enough to house 2 plants together. They will be in their respective netpots. My question is, Can a sativa and an indica be grown together? Do they have different nute requirements? I know indicas are short, and sativas are tall, and since taller sativas will most likely over shadow the smaller indicas so light wont reach lower levels, is it a good idea to feed them from the same dwc setup if the light issues can be resolved.

Thanks.

Inwoukd tend to only grow clones of the same plant like that. Different phenos from the same strain can have different nutrient requirements.

Other issues you might have are one plant shading the other....

Personally I have lots of strains growing in the same space... but in separate pots so you can increase height to get an even canopy

Sativa and indica have different requirements to grow healthy.
Not advised to put two different types in same container/ res. As indica will need way more nutes than the sativa. I'f they were same type but different strain id still be hesitant about putting them into same system as plants tend to have different requirements at different stages of growth.

Eg... if one needs more nutrients how you going to give it more without the other being affected? Or if one is getting too much how you cut back just one plant in system.

....Just a thought.

Hi ,

Thanks for the reply.

yes, that's what I though. I didn't know sativa and Indicas have different nute requirements cause all the feeding charts I have seen don't differentiate between the two so was a little unsure about that.

Thanks for clearing it up.

High chance youre going to have a bad time.
They'd likely be fine in veg, but once they hit flower indicas and sativas can be very different.
Sativas generally take longer all around and that will likely put the plants at different stages during flower. (this is where the feeding difference comes in)
Sometimes even two strains that are both dominant to the same side can have different needs and not do great together in the same solution.
You could probably manage to keep both alive, but your end results will be less than ideal on at least one of the 2.

People need to realize that R/dwc is for clones. Starting seed plants in it is doable, but really not recommended.

I dont agree. It takes a little more effort unless youre doing like I am, but once you figure it out I dont think its much harder than clones.
Just gotta start your seeds right.

I agree, hell I pulled a plant out of dirt and put it in a net pot.....it grew. Alot.
