Can I Clone Everything?

No not everything can be cloned. However you can clone some trees. Thats exactly what a bonsai tree is. A bonsai tree is a branch thats been cut and rooted a special way (the exact details of which I'm not sure of). They are then pruned in a stylized way making them look like miniature trees for which they came from.
From what ive read you can totally bonsai from seed, cuttings just take a couple few years off the proccess

All pot plants can be cloned.
this is only true to a certain point. you can take cuttings of cannabis ruderalis (autoflowering strains), but once the plants genetic age reaches the strains flowering time, you won't be able to keep it from flowering. at the same time, you cannot clone a ruderalis strain (autoflowering) once it is in bloom. these plants are not photoperiod dependent, and therefore would be impossible to veg a cutting.

ok here goes......... i just cut off my finger ima try and graft this pen on to it.........oh fuck i forgot to but the cloning hormone i could just stick my fignger in the dirt and grow a new hand right...............lol my grandmas been cloning roses n shit forever i think she made the firt rose ha i think you can clone any plant or weed the only diff will probably be the rooting success rate.

I've actually grown out bonsai's from seed.. They are almost as picky as pot plants, but can be done... I actually bought a kit a Barnes & Noble one day for like 10 bucks, and it worked well until I lost lighting.

You can graft Marijuana and you can "air layer" also. There are different methods for different plants and trees, cloning doesn't work on everything.

Air layering is cool, I have done it in my garden, but not with my girls. In theory, you could have several rooted clones on one plant, just snip them off and use....meaning your count wouldn't go up until you cut the babies off the mom. I have talked with someone who was successful at doing this with cannabis, and it really isn't that hard...except the size stems you would want to root would be pretty small to deal with.

Basically, you make a slit in a stem, I use a piece of toothpick to keep the "wound" open. Apply rooting gel, wrap with damp moss, and then a dark baggie type material like a piece of garbage bag, a tie twist can hold everything tight in place at the bottom, you can even use electrical tape.... but a twist tie is best to seal the top as you want to be able to add just a little water every few days until your roots show up. When you have enough roots, clip it off the stem and plant.

Do a search on "Air Layering" and you will find methods and pics.

Fun stuff, I am excited to try grafting some strains on one mom plant....I know how to graft, just never thought of it....thanks for sharing Stelthy :-)

i want to clone a piece of lettuce out of a bag
look into micro-cloning. it's considered sterile culture. basically, you can take a TINY pice of plant material, like say a piece of a stem, and place it in a sterile jar with rooting gel as the medium in the jar. it's kind of a cross between growing mushrooms and growing pot. basically, as long as there are no contaminates (for example mold spores) in the jar, then the plant material "colonizes" the rooting gel and begins to form roots. after a few weeks, you should have a baby plant. i haven't done this myself, and from what i hear it's very challenging, but if you had an awesome plant that you don't know where it came from it may be a good way to try and save it's genetics.

I've been doing bonsai for years, and you can do them from seed. The pruning that keeps them small is called root pruning, and it's exactly as it sounds. You prune around the root ball to keep the plant dwarfed. I'll do mine about twice a year, sometimes more if they're growing fast. The tops can be pruned or even shaped (kinda like LST).

Another way to reproduce plants, like cloning and grafting, is layering. Check into it-- it works really well.

I use layering in my gardens too. But I typically use serpentine layering or simple layering. It's exactly the same as you described but after putting a small notch into the stem I bury it under the soil and hold it under with a small hook shaped wire. Water as normal, and within a few weeks roots have grown out of the stressed area that was notched. It works more often than not. Good stuff MomaPug, cheers.

Grafting etc interests me. Could you graft a cannabis plant to an actual tomato plant ? - STELTHY :leaf:
No I dont think so, and if you could it wouldnt work like you think. If you graft a cannabis plant onto a tomato plant, the cannabis plant wont turn into a tomato plant, it will simply use the plant structure below the graft as its source of water. You would have a cannabis plant that is using a tomato root system to gather nutrients and water. Everything above the graft would still be cannabis and not produce tomatoes.

Actually sounds like an interesting idea though, to graft cannabis onto a more durable and better root system. I don't know if there is a better, more efficient, more disease resistant root sytem that could be used though. Or if it would even be worth the trouble. Still interesting.

Yeah almost any plant can be cloned.
My grandfather owned an apple orchard and cloned/spliced an orange tree branch to one of those apple trees. Guess what happened, he had a fruiting apple/orange tree.

Hell if you find a branch on the ground that isnt too dried out you can put it in a cup of water and it will start to root

Cannabis grows bark so..... Couldn't waste my time on grafting, unless I lived in a warmer climate where they could live outside all year. The reason autos are strange is because they have been cut with a fast growing plant that requires very little light to flower from Siberia. Mitee mite pot or whatever they called it was never really was never a real hit with the general population. People prefered Columbian, Good Jamacan, Panama pot and hash from Lebenon.

You can clone almost any type of plant from veggies to trees and shrubs with the right kind of cloneing supplements. Im pretty sure you cant use what we use for weed to clone trees though.

i have a book from the american horticulture society on plant propergation. You cant clone every thing like mj. but there is almost always a way to make new plants other then seed. i graft cacti to make them grow faster. and almost all citrus trees in a grove are grafted. Otherwise you would get really seedy oranges.

my friend's mom's garden is full of plants she plucked right out of other people's yards when she was walking her grandson. some of them she clones in water, others she just yanks out by the roots and replants and they just take off and spread out. she has never purchased a single seed or plant for this landscape. she is convinced there is no plant she cannot "have" this way. some stuff took her a lot of trial and error (and return trips) but she always gets it to take. i have also seen branches from apple trees rooted in plain water, planted, and bore fruit within 2 seasons. i do know that the roots can tell a lot about how the plant can be regenerated. some plants MUST be cloned directly from the root mass, some will root on their own if cut.

This thought totally ran through my head.
the idea I had was that you could start a fruit/flower/tree/ whatever kind of store you wanted,
and clonecloneclone! guaranteed the same genetics and every customer gets as many as they want!
funny you guys posted this first...

I was thinking the same thing!! Heirloom is what your plants would be if you would be able to keep them for a long period of time.

This is possible....all the items you mentioned are clonable. i can give you detailed info how you can do it.
With all members of the plant Kingdom all you need to make a genetic copy is a piece of the plant. Which piece depends
which plant you want to copy. This is called Asexual propigation. There are other ways of reproduction. The other and only way is sexual propagation.
In that situation you need a female to create the new life. Some plants sexually propigate like hollies,Cheery Trees, and others, whereby you need a female and a male pollinarorotherwise you won't get holly berries. But those plants I mentioned can be asexually propigated, through new growth pruning, rooting hormone and sterile warm wet soil. I think basically ell plants can be cloned. That poses a question which I am not able to answer. "If there are six Kingdoms on this planet...the two bacterias, Eubactia and Archiobacteria, Protists, Plants, Animals and Fungi, can all of these members be asexually propigated or cloned? Someone ask Yoda and get back to me.../

for example..if im walking down the street and see a nice tree..can i cut a branch and clone it? fruit trees? bushes? is there specific spots you need to cut certain plants or basically just cut a branch?
