i have a 1000watt hps setup and i was just wondering if i could grow in a veg stage with it aswell? cuz i kno its recommended for the flowering stage, i have lots of different kinds of set ups, long story but just a question, i know i can use CFLs, florecents, MH cold/or nutruel bulb, led grow panels etc. which i all have but i wonder if anyones produced any ligit results regarding this question

thanx to any responders in advance

very much so..i havnt done much indoor but my buddies use it through their whole cycle and all they do is move lite up and down depending on size....smaller the plant the further away the lite,as the plant gets bigger and healthier then the closer you can bring it..and they always have used the 1000hps..

Sure, lots of guys use HPS for vegging. I've used it before, also, and the only difference I noticed, is that the leaves tend to be a little darker green than if I used MH. I only did one grow with HPS, so maybe it's my imagination, but I'm guessing that the chlorophyll reacts differently to the different light spectrum, but otherwise, works great.

Thanx guys, ya i was just wondering as to the difference it would make for veg, and i guess flowering as well between MH and HPS

anyone notice any big differences? cuz i have a cold MH 400watt bulb, and a warm MH 400watt bulb and this thing is bright! then i have a 1000watt HPS bulb, are there different kinds of HPS bulbs like warm/cold/nuetral etc? and wtf is hortilux? lol

you can veg and flower with hps yes... just remeber that plants grown like this will be stretchier and have more distence inbetween nodes...

isn't that a good thing tho? cuz i have lots of room, would all of this extra "stretching" create more stem and less bud? or will it fill in normally but just be bigger/taller?

Generally, yes. MH during flowering, will keep stretching minimal, compared to HPS, whereas HPS will produce denser buds. Ideally, you'd like to be running both at the same time, or maybe even MH for the first couple weeks, then switch to HPS.

Hortilux bulbs have enhanced spectrums, with extra blue added. Growers swear by them, and I plan to switch, or go to CMH bulbs. Not sure yet, til I see more results of the CMH's

I don't mean to hijack the thread...but I have a similar question, I'm vegging under 2 24w T5HO's right now...2x1' space its about 4000 lumens + mylar surrounding. I'm flowering with a 1000w hps and

I want to know if its ok to put the vegging plants under the 1000watter for the 12 hours its on and 2 T5's for the other half of the day for their 24/0? since my flowering ones need their dark period.

CMH's being cold MH bulbs? and ya im probly going to use both when i bud, a few ppl have suggested that. and ya where would i begin with this new notion of hortilux bulbs lol

please read the thread "NEED SUGGESTIONS - recieved a bunch of free grow equipment" this is my list of everything i have and am using, should i bother to go buy some hortilux bulbs, and for what ballast/spectrum etc. just wondering specifics.. like do they make hortilux bulbs for every kind or stage? MH/HPS/cold/warm/etc or is this known as one bulb all on its own, or is it just MH.. etc etc lol

i dont even own a MH they are kinda a waste now with the dual spectrums out now. you will get stretch doin seedlings under that being it needs to be so far away for the heat untill they are hardened off. you also get more lumens using a dual HPS . the blue in a MH is a better quality colour/lumens, but it dosnt last as long as whats in the HPS.
look at the super eye by horilux....heres a bit of info and specs on the different bulbs they have............http://www.eyehortilux.com/EQS-N-52-84-00036.pdf

and to the other guy i wouldnt be moving back n forth like that form intense light to a weeker one, sure it will grow but w2ill also cause some stress.

thats dope man, the "hortilux SUPER BLUE" sounds really awsome, thanx for that info, im just using all the bulbs ive bin given which are probly out of date, i do have a brand new 400watt sunmaster warm deluxe MH bulb which is fuckin bright! and i have a pretty much brand new 1000watt hps bulb (dono much else about this bulb) but ya i was thinking about going out and grabbing a bunch of new bulbs, these ones i have seem sketchy just cuz i dono n e thing about them n they r used.

to see if a bulb is new or used. look at the tip that goes inhside to the mogul/socket. a used one will have a dimple. like a used bullet shell does form the pin. this does same thing...is why its hard to tighten them in good. that. it may look a bit blackish there. make sure to clean the bulb off of finger prints after installing. the oils from our hands has an effect on the lighting. minor but it does.
i dont like son master bulbs. im all phillips. right from a cfl to an hid. and hortilux is same company as phillips. i use a 430 hps son agro form them as well.

ive herd alot of suggestions on that very bulb actually (430watt hps). but ya these are some good/expensive investments as i got ALOT of shit for the price of a few buds. so this is some good info. what dont u like about sunmaster? im really impressed by that SUPER BLUE bulb tho. had no idea there was that kind of tech. out

been a while since ive looked at their info but i think it was the colours in it, and i 5thinkw as weeker in lumens. i did try it and wasnt happy with the performance.

i used to always get told about this mythical hps stretching. well not if you use it right. these dont have all that much penetration. i see to many out growe thier light sources.

a 400 hps is only good for 18 inch or so then each inch more it drops by about 50% lumens, a 600 is about 22 inches and a 1000 is about 24 inches. so an plant taller than that at max hight is kinda a waste and is why i see so many do get stretch. when i run the 430 in a sealed air cooled hood my tips almost touch the glass. if you cant keep it cool enough then it needs a bigger fan. on average i finish in 2 gal pots, plants are average 2 foot tall including pots and get 3 to 4 oz dry with no stem each plant. ran 6 plants this way under a 1k dual hps. and was only t-12 for veg and i got 22 oz dry weight. flipped to hps as soon as i saw alternating nodes

man im rambling now

no good info man thanx. i have a 400 mh/hps ballast running with some sort of MH bulb, im assuming its out of date becuz its got a white layer on the glass like a normal house light bulb, it has a sort of yellow light too like a normal bulb woud its od, but i dono the brand its too bright and its fucking hot, im also running a 400watt MH hanging ballast with what im guessing as a cold sylvania, which was what i was originally running, i just hooked up this new one (the white bulb) and its brighter then the sylvania, so i put my mother under the sylvania and put all the new ones under the brighter bulb but its too hot for me to get the plants closer to this one they are about 25inchs away, the temp in the tarped enclosure is 83.5 right now, i have a fan blowing cold air into the room then a fan blowing into the grow area (tarped enclosure) sitting ontop of an air purifier then an exhaust fan blowing air out of the grow area so it creates an airflow.

I'll vouch for the Super Blue. I'm running a Hortilux Super Blue with a 1000w lumatek ballast in my closet. It's AMAZING!!!

ya i think the only bulb i would purchase from eyehortilux.com's distributors is the SUPER BLUE bulb.. any other bulb by them ive noticed is like half the hours it would last as apose to another company. i was going to purchase a straight BLUE bulb 400watt by eyehortilux but my grow store was VERY helpful and told me about a new brand they started to carry called "Plantmax" so i purchased two becuz they had a 7200k spectrum! as appose to the BLUE that only had a 4000k spectrum or something like that n e ways. plus these plantmax bulbs will last twice as long and were only like 30$ each, dono how much the BLUE ones are but i didnt care after i noticed the long lasting hours and huge difference in spectrum.

also that is crazy to be running in ur closet, u must know ur shit to be able to do that lol must be mad hot! and are u budding with it or using it for both stages? i forget if it was recommended to use HPS and MH for both stages or if it was recommended for budding but either way def might spend the $250 or w/e it is down the road on the SUPER BLUE
