I have never seen a side by side that shows final dry weight. I stopped pruning and defoliating and went from 2 to 4 ounces dry on my plants consistently. I do agree cutting lower branches can have benefits but one of them is not total yeild.

Look how much bud on this plant is from bending at the end of week 1 and turning and training the plant to be a bush.
The leaves were removed for harvest. This one still had its first real set of leaves from a seedling at the base.

And here is another plant to show how frosty a lower bud can get. This bud was almost on the floor at the end. It weighed about 3 grams of solid frosty bud when dried.
It was hidden under a very leafy canopy. I value good ventilation to keep things healthy.

Again if at wrong times it can be bad if done at right times it's good. That simple idk why people deny it when it's proven people just don't listen to when to do it and don't know how

I know when even High Times says to do it. I have tried many times. The plant does not produce bigger or more buds. It just looks impressive bare. And it tends to cause the need for more nutes to take place of what?
The stored NPK in the leaves. It is completely counter productive.
I understand that is the premise in 3 a light as well.
Up the EC during defoliation. Why not just keep the plant healthy in the first place?

It increases yield, I my reason not to defoliate is if your out door. You can also use stakes to open up the plant for more light penetration with a little light defoliation to.

That is what I do. Maintain the leaves but bend the plant before week 2 of stretch and train as many branches to stretch up as possible.
Works for my style. It gave me a lot more yeild and less feeding problems the first time I tried.
However I was a newb when I followed the defoliation guides so as usual all kinds of methods work for all different growers.
And they work well obviously.

I pick my bitches bald! More light the better, I do leave the top three or so nodes fully hooded though.

I trim all older fan leaves and I'm just at the 33 day into flower, my girls love a trimming twice a Week just to get any mature fans from taking any extra juice they don't need. My ladies are looking healthy and happy trimming doesn't lead to any shock or truama as long as you don't over do anything, as a lot of new cultivators do
