can i start from seed under 1000w?

want to start seeds in rockwool under 1000w. how far away should it be? 18in?

A typical 1000w needs to be at least 16" away from the plants at all times and is set to about 19" away each day (provided there's adequate cooling) to provide room for vertical growth. Seedlings & clones are commonly placed twice the distance away when first put under the lamp, so about 3' away. The lamp is slowly moved closer as the plants grow larger.
