I've done it in the past when I was preparing clones for transplant outdoors.
I started them in 4 inch rock wool cubes, and planted them directly into the ground(soil) when they had a good set of roots. If your soil is rich, with a fair amount of nutes already in it, I'd avoid fertilizing until a week or so to see how they're doing. Then fertilize at about 1/4 to 1/2 strength. Then take it up from there. Most hydro nutes can be used in soil, as long as they have the proper micro nutes in the formula(and most of them have this). Just don't use soil nutes with hydro!
