Can I use 400 Watt HPS bulb in a 500 Watt Ballast?

Hello everyone setting up my first grow today. Got a hydroponics kit and I have two light setups. 1 150 watt HPS and a 500 Watt hps. Im sure it is okay to use a 400 watt bulb in a 500 watt ballast but I just wanted to make sure here. Anyone know? I want to get a MH conversion bulb so I can use the MH bulb in my HPS ballast. So is it okay if i get a 400 watt conversion bulb to place in the 500 watt ballast? thanks very much for the help!

It will fire up the bulb but the bulb will burn out very quick, learned that hard way several years ago. You need a 500W bulb for a 500W ballast.

No, don't do that. You need to match the wattage of the bulb with the wattage of the ballast.
