What exactly is happiness?
Freedom? The freedom to do what you want, when you want?
Relationships? The ability to love someone unconditionally, the ability to trust someone unconditionally? -can money buy that?
Health? Sure, some things can be fixed via an unlimited amount of money, but then again, some things, can't. Is health accounted for when deciding happiness? What if you have something genetic that shows itself in those later years? Something cancerous, inoperable, fatal..? Does money provide happiness then?
What if someone you love experiences something like that? Something you could throw millions, billions of dollars at and still never figure out a cure.. Would you still be happy?

On the flip side, it's easy to get free of annoying relatives and hangers-on. Give them a grand, and tell them you expect it back the next time you see them. On the other hand, don't let it come between friends and family. Just give them the help when they need it. But for the grace of God ...

I think if I or a loved one were dying I would still rather have money than not.
It can buy certain forms of happiness and most forms of comfort.
I already have the happiness you get from family now a few shoe boxes full of 100`s
On the other hand I have the knowledge that without someone to share it with it means very little. But still better alone with money than without.

happiness is satisfaction with your daily life. It all depends what your heart is reaching for. If you are making expectations for yourself or if you are expecting. Are you looking for enough to survive or are you looking to score big time. Are you looking to provide for a family or party until you're 40?
At the end of the day, everyone knows, it's family that matters the most above all. Wether it's the one you grew up with or the one you created yourself. If you don't have family you don't have shit.

Found myself asking the same question.
My father has made and lost millions of dollars and the shit he went through is more than most people could handle.
Now the transition period from having money to not was difficult for our family, but we made it work.
It wasn't easy. It wasn't as fun. It wasn't better than having money and it still isn't.
There is almost no upside to not having money when you live in this society and expect to participate. Certainly won't get you anywhere fast.
It will help you see what's important in life. Prioritize needs from wants.
What if you have already been poor, have prioritized needs from wants and now want to better yourself?
Live up to your potential. If that means being poor your whole life well you might want to question the decisions your making.
Unless you are off the grid or very self sufficient you're still going to need money.
I'm not trying to say money buys happiness. But money does buy security. For a family that can mean a lot.

I tell you now there is a different sense of self-worth when you earn it.
I would say a good woman at my side, a roof over my head, and a clean conscious is all I need for happiness.
What happens when I get hungry and need to pay bills? What happens when a freak accident leaves a loved one dead or destroys my home? That's when I need money. In the mean time I'm going to prepare for the future.
Having money is going to allow the things I love to stay alive, for the most part.
Well I admit I'm a little ass backwards on the subject. Criss-crossing a bit.
My original post was backed by generations of my family working for their own dollar. This was my thought process while typing that.
Life insurance is a great thing to leave for your family if you want to provide security.

This is all you really needed to say tbh. It's a nice story tho, and I've earned my money and back when I was making decent money I was happy, but only because my life was good then, never really thought about the other stuff, but I see what you mean by it.

Yeah pads question of "what is happiness?" got me thinking about every single underlying factor towards a happy life.
I realize how confusing my thought process can be.
Diarrhea of the mouth you could call it.
And thanks for the honesty, it's usually needed more than it's not.
