Can someone help me put together a grow room?

Ok, I have one outdoor grow under my belt and just got a new place in the country and would like to try my hand at indoor. Soil, organic, nothing huge. My room is about 4x5x9tall. In the back, left corner is a 2x2x2 box that houses some ductwork. So my workable are consists of a 3x4 are connecting to a 2x2 area another elevated 2x2 area.

My main motivation was to grow a few mothers to clone off for this outdoor season. I could probably use the elevated 2x2 area for clones but that would mean partitioning the remaining area for a veg and flower area, maybe 2x2 for veg and 3x4 for flower.

My main obstacles are figuring out how to set up the room and getting power in this closet. Any input on either would be greatly appreciated. If anyone can see a way to avoid partitioning it into three parts without adding any serious time between harvests that would be awesome too.

I attached a crude drawing of the area (not to scale) for anyone who can't visualize it.

Thanks a million ya'll.

Edit: I forgot to add, the ductwork that is in the box goes to a grill on the other side of the wall, so if I was to clean the air (which I'm going to have to) is there any way to do so using that duct, even though there is only about eighteen inches to two feet between where I'd tie in and where it would be vented?

I'm reading as fast as I can. I've been looking for an excuse to read up on indoor grows so I'll be here all night.

yea do the 2x2 for clones and a mother if u can and if there are outlets in the room and u dont want to run more outlet boxes get some good rated extention cord use at least a 400 hps for flower and make sure u have an inlet and oulet with air blowers one both for ventilation and u can use a carbon filter for recycling clean air and odor control

Clones and a mother in the same area? :? Or do you mean clones in one 2x2 area and a mother or two in the other? There are no outlets in the room (closet) and I am opposed to using extension cords for anything.

As far as ventilation, does the cfm rate of the intake have to match that of the exhaust (which will be pushing through a carbon filter)? For some reason I didn't even think about an intake, I guess I took for granted that there would be air in the room.

An unrelated question, what is the best way to seal off a door from air/light leaks and still be able to use it daily?

Hopefully these questions sound stupid and I'll be able to work it all out. I don't think I realized how much work went into grow room prep, now that I'm trying to think the whole thing out it is pretty overwhelming.

Thanks

Also, I didn't even think about it, but should I build a box and box in the whole setup? The only reason I ask is because nine feet seems like a lot more height than others on here have in their rooms.

Thanks

sounds like you need to decide weather you want to use the room for "moms and clones" or a "start to finish room" due to your lack of space. not to say its imposible, however it seems to me that it be difficult to control the climate in two separate spaces in the same small room, you have to consider that clones and the vegging mom require more humid air and 18 to 24 hrs of light and the flowering plants would require less humidity and 12 hrs of light. looking at your diagram i dont think boxing in the 2x2 space will give the room you will need for the vegging mom and clones. if you went with a split level set up it would really limit the height for your flowering plants. imo l think you would save yourself a lot of grief by finding a different space for your mom and clones or just use the room strictly for moms and clones...bottom line is its always a bitch at first when setting up an indoor show.. good luck..

Hey I appreciate the response, and you pointed out a few things I hadn't thought about. As of right now this is the only space I have available. I think my need for clones for this season trumps my desire for an indoor harvest.

That being said, the best thing to do would be to use the floor area for moms and the elevated area for clones. I'd still have to box that part in though, because the light I use for the moms (400-600w mh) would be too much for the clones, correct? They'd need their own light source and humidity dome, but since the light cycle would be the same light leaks from one area to another wouldn't be a problem, right?

You're absolutely correct, it is much more of a bitch than I had imagined.

Assuming I could find another spot, strictly for clones, what do you think about building up the back 2x4 area to the height of the elevated area and vegging there and flowering on the floor. There would have to be two light-tight areas, which would mean two separate exhausts, [looks for verification]?

Thanks guys

if you boxed in the 2x4 space, you could use some of the sun blaster t5s, they are available in 2',3' and 4' tubes or 13,15and 26 watt cfls. a computer fan for exhaust would probably be sufficient for an area of that size. then start a mom from a clone and do the bonsai mother thing . that would leave you enough room a heat mat and three of the 10x20 humidity tray/domes. you would be limiting your access the clone box to 12 hrs a day, due to the fact you have walk through the flowering area to get to the clones. but it could work..

You know I was thinking about the clone situation and now what I'm thinking is that I have a shitload of vertical space that will go unused, and if I were to partition off the top 20" or so I could use it as dead space to vent air into to be cleaned and then vented to the attic and also for clones. That way I could use the 2x4 area for veg/mother, the other area for flowering and the top for clones. It would be easy to install a ceiling with access.

I think my main obstacle now is power. All that is in there now is a light socket, I'll have to get in the attic tomorrow and see what I can tie into. There are no ceiling fixtures in my fucked up living room, but three or four switches that don't do anything noticeable. I'd be running a couple flouros, an inline fan and a computer fan and about 500w of HIDs 250/250 or 300/200 hps/mh. Is this going to present any problems if I just tie into something on a circuit that doesn't get much use, plug in a surge protector and roll?

Thanks again.

a lot of people hard wire their room directly to the breaker box, by adding a 20A circuit breaker and running some heavy indoor wire from the box to the room via the attic or crawl space. HOWEVER, if you don't have any knowledge on AC electrical, than you would probably be better off running some heavy extension cord from an already existing outlet..imo.. if your not confident with doing your own wiring, I would just run a cord and add a box with 4 outlets on the room end...good luck..

thats the best way.....buy a 20A or 30A depending on how much power you need then use a roll of romex wire and a box like the one pictured below...its great it has 110v and 220v on it....and run all the plugs on the timer that is built in...these boxs are easy to assemble...even easier to wire into your house......everything to build this box can be purchased at home depot, lowes or any electrician store.....
