Can someone help me with my light setup? HPS + T5 fluorescent together? (newbie)

  • Can I use my 1000HPS light fixture at the same time as my T5 light fixture? (cost isn't an issue) Would this give me a bigger yield? see my setup below please: (pics at bottom of page to clarify setup)

I purchased a 1000watt HPS bulb with a yield master reflector, T5 Fluorescent Light System (2 foot x 4 tubes), a remote ballast, CO2 bag, fans etc..
(I do not have a MH bulb)

**My T5 light kit has two white lights and two orange colored lights. What does this mean?
(I was at a grow shop today and the guy suggested this, but this is my first indoor grow and all these lighting phases are confusing me)

**I am growing 6 plants to start in a large closet that has a pole across the top center (end-to-end) allowing me to hang both adjustable light fixtures at the same time. WHAT TO DO?! I appreciate any help form the more experienced growers on here...I am new here

Growing for peace I appreciate your reply but it was a very vague comment not answering my question. What do you mean exactly? My Question was can you use HPS with T5 at the SAME time? Are HPS strictly for flowering? Or can you veg with them?

So this forum is not the friendliest I guess...Thanks guys. I realize you can set them up many different ways. That is not answering my question. I am simply asking for opinions on growing HPS simultaneously with T5 lighting....Pros? Cons? I joined this forum hoping someone on here would have experience doing so....But thanks for your comments. Maybe someone else has done this?

Yes sir I do.

The blue bulbs are good for vegging while the red bulbs are good for flower. Using them which and anyway is up to you.

The first poster explained(not really) that the T5s should be on the plants while their smaller, and once they get up to good size use the HPS... You can use both at same time, one of the ways to do this would be to have the HPS on top, while the T5s are for side lighting. So you get fat buds all around see?

I'd veg with the T5. Since this is your first grow approach it like you know you're going to Fail... And yes, we are the friendliest.. But some of us havent got that Peaceful bowl of the day yet... See?

Im really sorry about that ahaha. Yeh, veg with t5 and hps if you want, more light is better. For flower you need the hps and the t5s could really help with undergrowth. We are mostly friendly, i just had a late night partying.

My first succesful grow, I used a 400HPS on top, and on each of the 3 walls, I ran a 4 tube bank of T 12s, and on the door, another 4 bank, giving 16 4' tubes running vertically. The growth was wonderful, even, and the lowers got plenty of light, giving decent quality buds. Not like the tops, but not bad.

Awesome thanks for the replys.. I decided to combine the HPS with the T5 along with the most power CFL's I could find and hoping to add a MH in there eventually Hopefully my apartment won't burn down while I'm at classes ....

When you replace the bulbs, find something with a lot of UVB light, it helps develop the plant better. Those are the kind reptile pet owners use.
