Can you over cross breed?

Is there any point that you can cross TOO many strains? At any point will a crossed strain just become too unstable to be of any use or can I just keep crossing until I die of old age?

Well assuming I keep breeding and picking out clones with the traits I prefer it should come out as a superior strain should it not? Assuming I breed to maximize yield, potency, ect and get rid of the clones that develop unwanted traits I should get a steadily improved strain

Ive read Shanti babba sayn that many breeders did this an it was bad.
I believe cause it ruins all there hard work at making em stable?

You can keep crossing but then you always have a bunch of F1's. If you are really trying to breed in certain traits you have to do some back crossing as well go stabilize the strain.

in my eyes i dont see how selective breeding could ever go wrong. it just doesnt make sence. thats how weed got to where it is today?

In theory you could cross breed until the cows come home and still get something good from it. Just not anything stable. It's like if you bred a bunch of different dogs over several generations. The new mutt probably wouldn't have anything wrong with it, but you probably wouldn't be able to get that same dog again.

Making killer strains of weed has nothing to do with the name you use, your name as a breeder, how long you've been in the game, how many Facebook friends you have or the last time you voted, although some of those things do FACTOR IN. You need to have a good feeling for the plant, be able to identify certain genetic traits (it's not all about being purple, smelling like "Da Cronic" or any other (c)rap lyric) and keep good notes. A background in plant botany is good, but far from needed. The breeders that you hear about aren't magic and aren't using magic powder, there is no reason the home grower can't grow the same quality form their own genetics.

Big name breeders have experience to fall back on, and quality products as the results, but most started with someone else's genetics, except for a few that started with landraces. If you know what yo're looking for, you can create killer strains. Even the best breeders joke that the best weed in the world is sitting in some hippies secret seed stash collection somewhere just waiting to be cracked and found.

Now the question is who will find it, someone with brains and capabilities like the big name breeders, or some newbie that planted 20 seeds before he decided to figure out what people mean by needing a special light and stopping by Home Depot for a bag of cheap potting soil.

And the adventure begins...
