Can You Start a DWC Bucket with a Cutting

Yes you can. You just have to be able to fill your bucket up so that the stem dips into your water. Make sure there is plenty of bubbles.

It is not necessary to have the stems touching the water. In fact you want the water 2" below the bottom of the net pot. You should have enough bubbles that the net pots and the stem stay moist. You really don't run a DWC cloner that much different than normal, maybe run the water a little higher, but IMO many people run their water too high to begin with.

Will the stems dipping into the water rot them? I was under the impression that if there was enough oxygen n the water things would be safe. I just recently put together a DWC cloner with a 8x16 tupperware container. I've got 2 airstones going, but the bubbles are not making enough force to splash water up 2".

you need to get a larger air pump. I have a 5 gallon bucket and I am running a 35 gallon pump in it and it splashes up 3+ inches. You can go to walmart even and get a pump that cost about $20 and it will work perfect. Also you might want to check your air stones. Sometime they get slug on them and you need to clean them or you might want to get a diffferent stone. I have had great luck with the ones that are flat. I dont know if you are using the cylinder stones or not but I had no luck with them and switched to the flat ones and then bubbles were splashing high. Post pic of set up if you could I would not mind seeing it and im sure others would as well. GL
