Can you store pre-mixed nutes or do you mix a new batch every feed?

Hey all,

I am a newbie about to embark on my first grow. One thing I was thinking about was that when your using nutes the mixture is say..1ml/litre of water. Now, I am only looking to have 2-3 plants in a small cabinet grow and so I don't really want to mix up a litre of water if I am not going to use it all during that partiular feed and then have to throw it away.

So...can I mix up say 1-2 litres of water with nutes and store it in a bottle of some kind so I can use it on the next 1-2 feedings? Or do you guys use the water/nute mix and then discard what you don't use and then mix a new batch when you need it? I am assuming also that watering/feeding is normally (on an indoor cabinet type grow) done1-3 times a week (when the plant has dried out a bit and requires water).

Use a digital gram scale and scale the fertilizer mixture to 500ml of water. Don't use fertilizers full strenth on pot. It's a weed, not a vegetable. I use 1/6 of what the label reads for dirt in my F&D system and every five days the water is drained and used in the vegging room. It is important to keep the water airated.

I premix all of my nutes, organic & chemical before they get give'n to my plants. They never sit more than 6-7 days, but they do get pre-mixed and sit there a little while.

You are missing out then. I start off weak and then begin increasing the dosage until my plants tell me to lighten up. Those labels on the right ferts know exactly what you are growing and the amounts work fine for me. You think Fox Farms thinks people spend nearly $100 on soluble bud enhancements are growing tomatoes? Get real....

Soil is a great buffer as well, no sense in holding back on nutes with that attitude. Try 1/2 strength some time, or gasp!, full strength!!!

That's what i was thinking. All these nutrient companies say they're meant for veggies and junk but they know full well where their money is coming from.

Thanks guys. I think I will mix a batch and keep it in a bottle (sealed) and then change that every week. I would think the plant would soon tell me if there is a problem.

Am using Bio Bizz nutes with Bio Bizz allmix, which I think are organic. Was intending on using 1/4 of the labelled dose for the first week of veg and then slowly increasing it to full strength when the plants are bigger.

Do you guys use nutes as soon as you plant a germed seed or do you wait for the sprouts to show through first?

No nutes for seedlings for at least 3-4 weeks. That's what the cotyldons (sp?) are for.

Unless you want to find out more than you ever wanted about nute burned seedlings.

Sounds like a good plan. Some plants need nutes sooner than others but generally no nutes for the first 2 or 3 weeks. When the cotyledons start to go south, start feeding.

Does that mean 2-3 weeks from sprout? Or from start of germ? I put my girl into germ about two weeks ago. She sprouted a week ago. I gave first dose of 1/4 strength FF TRIO. in coco coir/perlite 1 gal pot last night. Too soon?

This. When they turn yellow and start to dry up then start hitting them. I actually wait because they sort of deflate and get flat like paper or something. That's exactly what I use to gauge when to start with nutes. Works every time for me. Even trying to give them a little "boost" before that usually turns out for the worse. Just think of them like training wheels on a bike or something.

I use No Nutes for first few weeks then when they have 3 sets of leaves I will use some ST and root stim with very mild Nutes for next few weeks, you can also sore nute mixture for longer if you use an air rock in it ( pump and rock. 10 bucks) keeps mix circulating to stop algae build up when stagnant.

Sure mix it up. Stur it up. And store it up. In the dark. Sunlight can effect the mix degrading it. Check the ph before using every time and your golden.
