Can You Use Inline Exhaust to Air Cool HPS?

I have a 424cfm inline fan that I am using to exhaust my room which is hooked up to a 6"x24" Phresh Carbon Filter, can I run my exhaust ducting into my Xtrasun 1000w hood before exhausting outside of tent? Or must I designate a separate inline fan for this purpose, thank you in advance for any help anyone may provide.

assuming its a (mostly) sealed light you should go filter=> ducting/fan => light => exhaust duct

Just try to keep the fan on the cool side of the light to prolong its life

most inline fans have a max working temp of 70C

If you go as directed above then keep ducting as straight as possible with no sharp bends.

i personally push the air as above but am about to go perpetual and will be testing both scenarios before committing myself to a definitive answer.

my testing will include these 2 ways

filter - ducting - light - ducting - fan

and

filter - ducting - fan - ducting - light - ducting


I would recommend runing tests on both to see which works for you the best.

I'm currently fabricating the intake/exhaust/fan/filter setup in my new room.....and am trying to configure it as effeciently as possible.

I was going to use two seperate fans......one for the 600w hood, intake directly from outside room, exhausted straight into exhaust duct. The second I would pull air through the filter out of the actual room, then tap into the ehaust ducts. Also will be adding backdraft dampers so the exhaust can't go back to the klitchen hood.

Should I just buy one fan twice as strong and use it for both functions?

I have a 600w cool tube. I originally installed an 8 inch inline fan from HD. I noticed at the exhaust end there was hardly any movement. I could still touch the duct work surrounding the cool tube but it was indeed hot. Last night I was looking at my Stanley squirrel cage type fan and decided to work on a project today that was well worth the time and effort.

I constructed a box 13"x12"x12" made of wood that the fan would fit into. I cut a hole in the box exactly where the intake is on the fan when it fits inside. For the exhaust port of the fan I placed a 6" to 4" conversion duct with the six inch side facing the box. I mounted the box to the grow room wall with the intake hole on the box alligned with the intake hole I had already cut in the wall. I hooked everything up and sweet Jesus, what a difference. It is a pleasure to see ventilation hose moving with so much air blowing through it. Now when I feel the cooltube duct work it is cool to the touch and that was with the fan setting on low!

The Stanley fan only cost $45. A high output inline fan was about $130. After spending so much money on lighting, grow room, soil so on and so on, I didn't want to spend another $130. It was an easy project and worth the time!

Lots of good replies. I have an update and this system is working great thus far, the lights stay nice and cool, the glass is not hot at all. I have an inline ducting fan between the 1000w although I only am using one at the moment for some bagseed I started while I was waiting on my good seeds. I have some Super Lemon Haze and Church vegging up as mothers now- from there I'll take clones.

if you use your first method & the light is not airtight,it will suck some air (&smell) into the ducting that wont be filtered.
your 2nd method will cause air to be pushed out any leaks & have the advantage of putting the fan befor the heat from the lamp so it might extend its life.

personally,I would go w/ 2 fans so if 1 dies,the other will help slow down the oven effect

illeagal breather i did some thing very similar but i used 2. one @ beginning of ductwork to push air into the light and one @ the end to pull it out. it works great. kolbalt sells a squirrel cage that moves 900-1100cfm for like 80 bucks.

I use two fans my tent exhaust is a 6in 409cfm and my 2 400w cool tubes are cooled by a 4in 190cfm inline fan BLOWING through them, this way if there are leaks it leaks out unstinky air and doesnt suck any in
