Canada Grow

I live in Toronto and want to grow outdoors this year. I have 2 questions though...

1) If I germinate and put the plants outside around June 1st to avoid any frost issues will I have sufficient time to acquire a good yield???

2) Secondly...will plants get the same effect from the outdoor sun if they are indoors on a window sill???

check the planting times for corn in you area plant then or after the last frost

no but you can germinate and vegitate

Okay great. Because if i start the plants in May and I have a few cold or rainy days then I'll just move them indoors near a window sill. I plan on putting only one in the ground and 2 or 3 others in large buckets.

You will have to check the planting times for your area, I dont know Toronto off the top of my head. It will also Greatly depend on the strain, how long the strain takes to flower, and if the strain prefers indoor or outdoor.

It depends how much light the sill gets. If it gets direct light all day you could achieve Excellent results.

You can keep then inside as long as you want before putting them outdoors. I know people who actually lug a plant in every day before sun down so it doesnt start to flower till he wants it to. Its only good for a few plants if you want to save on power. :wink:

I was planning on buying Northern Lights Indica from Toronto420. These plants are made for the northern climates and bloom early.

I don't have an indoor light setup otherwise I'd start them indoors, but wish i did...that's why i'm doing everything outdoors.

Get 4 foot fluorescent tubes and set up an area to start seedlings, and grow a couple mothers to clone. You could do it in a small closet with a single oscillating fan for air flow. Wouldnt smell too bad, keep a can of febreeze close by, and you could get your plants rooted before going outdoors. If you did that they would explode with growth when they get outside.

1) Those tubes don't emit much light (lumens), would it be enough?? I guess for just seedlings it would........

2) How long do i put them under that light for, just a couple of weeks or 1 week?? then outdoors they go....

dont bother with the floursents. im about 2 hours east of toronto. so we pretty much have the same climate. i germnate my seeds in towels and then put them in soil. i aim to have them outside first weekend of may

2) What happens if it rains for like 3 days solid??

3) Can they handle night time temps if it dips to like 5C at night??

First off,yes morning till evening you want as much light as you can get,it will be ok only if its not in a spot that can flood and it can dry out afterward.Also if you can, watch the weather so you know when rain comes so you know not to water before it gets a good rain.and yes 5c will be alright,pretty much as long as there is no frost your good to go :bigjoint:

youl be fine!!! toronto like the rest of southern ontario has an early last-frost compared to most of the other provinces except maybe southern b-c im in a way colder province and put my plants out june 1 and have no problems.... avoid window sils
its just not the same

Fluorescent tubes will be fine. You can get plenty of seedlings started, and even rooted in some big pots well before June so you will have a head start. When its June you will have all your babies ready and rooted to go outside and EXPLODE With growth under the sun. They have a Much better chance of survival when you start young plants indoors too.

Fluoro tubes put out like no heat. They work great for seedlings and young plants. If you get T-5 bulbs you could even grow some mothers under the Fluoro tubes.

Thanks alot guys, now i just have to decide whether or not to start them early under some flo's. Hmmmm. Decisions Decisions!!
