"Only old people eat dog" - FALSE, although it is more common it is not remotely close to true that only old people eat dog.

"You might eat dog too if it was one of the only sources of protein available to you as a child because the country had been invaded by colonialists who exploited its ressources for their war machine." There are plenty of protein sources available and eaten regularly in Korea (well South at least), people will generally eat what they are familiar with and raised on.

"They also don't eat puppies in Korea, buddy." - You are correct, they raise them until they are large enough to sell for meat at the meat markets, many of these dogs are former pets and dogs that came from puppy mills.

Facts are fun, my sister lived in and around Busan for several years for work, Koreans in general are pretty wonderful people.

No it seems you don't know the difference between racism (being biased towards a group based on their skin color) and jokes about CULTURE. Humor can also be about race but not racist or about social culture. IE Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Robin Williams, and every other great comedian of their time. Jesus for someone who goes around crying about facts you can't even get basic definitions correct. Pretty sad comedy needs to be explained to you. I bet you're a fucken blast to be around......

Disingenuous, eh? It's almost as if you're unaware of the nearly half a century of Japanese colonial rule or of the Korean War.

Most people who eat dog are old. Younger people, pretty much anyone under 40, sees dogs as pets. This fact serves to show how Korean society, including its food culture, has changed since people were starving, and they were. Just look at the height difference between the elderly and younger Koreans. They actually started changing the dimensions of furniture in the '90s. Kids were developing back problems.

Your sister worked in Busan? Cool. Did you?

I have the right to vote there.

No, teaching was never my passion so I never did the foreign teacher gig. Everything I know about Korea is what I looked into to make sure my sister wasn't going to wind up dead in a foreign country, turns out it is actually super safe compared to everywhere else she lived.
Congratulations on working in Korea long enough to get permanent foreign residence, or did you apply for citizenship ?
Which foreign teaching company were you working for ? It would be funny if it turns out you knew my sister.
I never said you were disingenuous (I also never talked about the colonialism aspect of your post), I said you were wrong.. you stated as fact that only old people eat dog, this is incorrect, it is more common in the older population but they are not the only ones who eat it. I also made it a point to state where you were correct, that they do not eat puppies.

One becomes a permanent resident before one earns citizenship.

I lived a few provinces north. We ran several businesses. There was even talk of franchising at one point. I had tenure at university as well. I used that as a safety net.

I left that life for the privilege of having a shorter life expectancy in Canada. Our federal and provincial governments suck balls. We live too close to the US to have a proper progressive government. Just look at the BS the Conservatives in Ontario and NB are pulling when it comes to the official languages. Divide and conquer to better rule.

PS. Canada sucks for business opportunities. Just look at legalisation. A big con to profit corporations and political insiders.

Yeah, I left that glamourous life for the privilege of having a shorter lif expectancy in Canada thanks to the fact we live far too close to the US to avoid dysfunction and corruption.

That is a shame, outside of the political climate I heard almost entirely good things about the place, even their reconstructive surgery is top notch should you get injured enough to require it.

You wouldn't wait six months to see the specialist either. It's all walk-in clinics. My friend was my specialist. When he ran out of options for treating my ear condition, he suggested I get surgery. I said, "Sure", not knowing how much of a boss he was. Two weeks later, I was operated on by one of his buddies, who just happened to be one of the top surgeons in his field.

Besides, how do you think your burger got on your plate? A cow wilfully donated parts of its flesh to feed you and now it lives happily on a farm in a far away place that nobody seems to know?

I do not know how long it was when my sister got injured but it was very quick to have reconstructive surgery after a nasty facial laceration, unless you are looking for it you would likely not even notice there was ever an injury now.

I was refused reconstructive surgery on my face after a car accident because it was considered 'cosmetic' and I was not female. Not a word of a lie, I was told if I were a woman it would have been deemed a medical need. I have had 4 operations to repair my eye and cheek in the 30+ years since, as it droops severely. I was also denied surgery for a severed acl from the same accident because I was not an athlete. That decision lead to numerous knee surgeries to remove torn (and eventually all) of my cartilage and I now have end-stage osteoarthritis largely because the acl was not reattached in 1987. I was told I needed a knee replacement when I was 47, but would not be eligible to go on a wait list until I was 65. That was about the time I quit going to doctors and tore up my health card.

You were excluded from health care services based on sex and occupation? Ever thought of suing on grounds they broke your charter rights or human rights? Health care is a human right, and discrimination of that sort is wrong according to Canadian law.
