Two Canadians die and end up in Hell. Satan decides to pay them a visit, so he walks into their room and sees them talking and laughing. Confused, he asks them why they're happy.
They tell him, "Well, we're so sick of the cold where we're from, and this place is nice and toasty."
Satan, annoyed, storms away and goes to Hell's boiler room, where he turns up the temperature.
He goes back to the Canadians' room, along the way being begged by all sorts of people to put the heating back down. He enters the room to see the Canadians having a barbecue. Furiously, he asks them what they're doing.
"Well, we can't pass up this wonderful weather without getting out the barbecue!"
Satan realizes he's been doing the wrong thing. He goes to the boiler room and turns it down until it's at a colder temperature than ever seen on earth.
He knows he's won now, so he goes back to the Canadians' room, only to see them jumping up and down in excitement. He shouts at them in fury, "WHY ARE YOU STILL HAPPY?!?!?!"
They look at him and shout at the same time, "Hell froze over! That means the Leafs won!"

Back in 1966 we had a storm akin to HP's. Was in March so my bellyaching about no snow may still bite us yet. Looked up my old house, we had five stairs up to our front door and from there the snow went up to the mail box. (not a picture of my house)

There was a nor’easter on the East Coast a month earlier. I was in suburban MD and four years old. After dad shoveled the driveway, he had to pick me up so I could see over the top.

February of ‘83, a storm hit Baltimore (my last semester of college) that dropped a solid two feet. I trekked through that stuff to my morning class only to find everything shuttered.

Two days later, it was time for my seven-mile (round trip) Saturday walk to the harbor market. It took me twice as long as usual due to the craggy frozen terrain where once there were sidewalks. My legs were sore for days.

(add) my clearest memory of that storm was thundersnow. There was none of the usual lumpy rumble. Instead there was a great wham of sound like a jet engine that smoothly decayed over thirty seconds. I never encountered that again.

For transgender students like Akira Hesslein the message is clear.

“We’re not happy with this, and we’re going to keep fighting until this is taken care of.”

From parental consent on changing pronouns to age limits on surgery, Premier Danielle Smith says the policies are meant to protect kids.

But the debate is getting a loud reaction from both sides.

The study published in The Lancet’s eClinical Medicine journal included more than 12 million individuals who lived in Ontario, Canada between 2008 and 2019 without an anxiety diagnosis or previous treatment.

Of those millions, researchers compared the more than 34,000 individuals who visited the accident and emergency department for cannabis use to the general population.

I'm not sure that is really as much a factor as the strain is.

For years I grew Kali Mist all from the same mother and generally harvested when the trichs were about 50:50 clear and milky with barely any amber to be seen. That was 13 - 14 weeks from flipping to 12/12. That stuff was very heady and not only a great daytime high but very effective at relieving my depression. I believe it was the Mazar that was part of it's heritage as other strains with Mazar even if indica leaning had a similar effectiveness.

I always hit that bud in small single hits in a pipe to titrate carefully as just a bit too much would bring on an anxiety attack that would only last 15 min or so but was a nasty side effect I tried to avoid. Once that was over everything was great and anxiety was never an issue with my chronic depression even when it got really bad.

I let one of the plants go to 20 weeks flowering and even tho all the trichs were milky there was still no big increase in the amount of amber to be found. By then I could see that it was losing a lot of trich heads so chopped it and still got anxiety from the bud.

I crossed it with original NL#5 and the resulting strain had all the depression lifting capability without any anxiety even when I deliberately smoked a lot more than usual. A much shortened flowering time of 9 - 10 weeks with my preferred pheno was much appreciated.

I think to have a validity one would need to factor in the mentally compromised as most in such a situation would be, as newly legalized and new to all of the affected study, a proper example would be to take people that have been consuming for a average of 10 yrs and have developed a beneficial habit, probably not a single instance of said medically compromised. I suggest the study is only mentally challenged that on the first event had no base level or any understanding to need an emergency visit from a harmless thing they have used to create harm through misuse then create facts on said idiocy . Might not be a particle conversation point actually, more of a mass social compromise legalization produces I’d contend, what considerations of this idea can you understand? Would be more the conversation applicable.

Yeah, if there’s one place that’s just not safe for kids, it’s Canada. Russia would be soooo much safer.

So Arend (and wife Anneesa) sold everything they had to move to sunny Russia and raise eight of their nine kids with “orthodox” values. They also gladly took donations on their social media platform from fellow right-wingers, all so they could live in Vladimir Putin’s wonderland. Russian officials assured them that they would work with them to get them established, and even help them get a farm. They did all of this just three weeks ago; long story short, they lived happily ever after.

Except they didn’t.

First, according to the family, the Russian bank where they moved the proceeds from selling their farm and belongings? It immediately froze their assets. The amount of money seemed suspicious, Arend states in a Feb. 9 video. I guess it would, since so many Russians outside of Putin’s circle are dirt poor. As a result, the family didn’t have money to live on—apparently those nice Russian officials offering to help them had disappeared.

Since no one in the family speaks Russian, they’ve also had a bear of a time trying to argue for their money—because Russia doesn’t require any bank, or any business, to hire English translators. In the meantime, they discovered that Russia is a pretty damn miserable place to be right now.

TikTok user Ukrainian.Networking translated a Russian Federation Reported Media story in a snarky post.

The Russian reporter noted that Anneesa spoke her mind in a since-deleted video on the family’s “Countryside Acres” YouTube channel.
"I'm very disappointed in this country at this point. I'm ready to jump on a plane and get out of here. We've hit the first snag where you have to engage logic in this country and it's very, very frustrating."

Hoooo boy. They just arrived and already she’s insulted Russia. Now, I’m not saying Russia doesn’t have freedom of the press, but it’s really just freedom to praise Putin and the country he controls. Anything that resembles criticism in Russia is NOT taken as kindly as it is in our godless Western dystopias. I’m also not suggesting that Russian officials paid the family a visit to remind them of where they are, but I will point out that Arend quickly posted an apology video to the Countryside Acres channel, saying that his wife misspoke and they’d deleted the video.

In that video, he reiterated that no, Russia is really, really great (subtext: “Please don’t push me out of a window”) and he spoke of his hope to resolve the issue with the bank. Commenters weren’t so sure, or kind. They pointed out that the bank will likely never release their funds and it is more likely that he will be recognized as a foreign agent.

At this point, I’m not sure the Countryside Acres farming gig is going to work out. Patriarch Arend should have agreed to be used as a tool for Russian state media. I mean, if you are going to be a Russian Asset, might as well go all-in.

I’m willing to bet that living in a country that grants gay people basic civil rights might not be looking so bad now. I was wondering if the family is desperately trying to split, so I looked up how difficult it is to leave Russia. According to the BBC, you can leave “as long as you have money and have not been called up to the army.”

Even if only for his kids’ sakes, let’s hope Arend’s only lost his money.

I often wish the "Freedumb Convoy" ended in Moscow or Beijing instead of Ottawa. I just thought if these people were so unhappy with government, maybe they should get the chance to actually see for themselves how good in comparison they have it. Of course, that will never happen.

The Alberta government has declared an early start to the 2024 wildfire season.

The season traditionally has run from March 1 to Oct. 31, but Alberta Forestry and Parks Minister Todd Loewen says it's now underway -- 10 days earlier than usual.

Loewen says the impacts of the record 2023 wildfire season showed the importance of a collective approach when dealing with disaster.

He says since Alberta is experiencing warmer than normal temperatures and below-average precipitation in many areas of the province it has led to a heightened wildfire risk.

Loewen says the earlier start will allow the province to better direct resources to new and existing wildfires.

Those measures include the use of the fire ban and restriction system to help reduce human-caused wildfires in response to hazardous conditions.

"We will do whatever is necessary to help Albertans and their communities stay safe from the impacts of wildfire," Loewen told a news conference Tuesday.

"I want to encourage Albertans to remain vigilant and recreate responsibly."

We've only had about a week of winter here, where there was enough snow to get a bit of exercise and shovel it. Although the John Deere snowblower was set to go, it's not been started - yet. Spring raking of tree debris is already finished, Tundra Swans have been seen overhead and the sound of Robin's was heard on Thursday. It's not been cold enough to walk on water, let alone go ice fishing. Motorcycles have driven by every month this winter.
