Canna Coco grow - Nute Burn?

Hey everyone,

This is my first grow with coco. I am using canna coco coir and the canna nutrient line (a+b and Pk 13/14). I am also using Earth Juice organic pH down. I pH my water to 6.0 (I use a liquid pH test kit so pH'ing to 5.8 is difficult.)

I am in day 13 and I started to notice curling (down) leaves around day 10. I though it was overwatering so i stopped watering for a day and a half. I started feeding a 25% nute solution around day 6, so i think it might be nute burn. Should i continue feeding or should I stop until they are older.

Look at the pics and let me know if they are showing signs of nute burn or overwatering.

I'd say both.

Just take it a little easier on this plant. Allow the roots to get set up.

Rhizotonic is really all you need for the first 10 days. At this point you can be using 5ml of A+B without burning the plant further.

Always make sure you get a very considerable amount of run off. I find Canna Coco to have a big charge of nutrients to begin with and don't really like the stuff much because of that. Allow the media to dry, then feed with the 5ml/gallon solution with like a good gallon of run off, if not more. This should help resolve build up.

When the plant is really young it is better to not water frequently with coco. Treat it more like soil until the root system is completely established. Then you can water as much as you desire.

Ja mon they are a bit burnt back off a bit on the watering\ nutes too. The thing about coco is you get a fast response either good or bad..

The leaves have finally stopped curling down...I was definitely over watering. The nute burn has caused some necrosis, but I think they should be fine.

I didnt know that Canna Coco had much nutrients in it - I guess it doesn't matter I really shouldn't have been feeding them so early anyway. Lesson learned.

Thanks guys for the help

I grow with coco and its true that Canna have some potent nutrient's I would be growing with Botanicare coco formula if I were you, I never really liked Canna. Also with coco you wan't a lot of fresh water flushing's like 2/3 fresh water of 1/3 fresh water but as burnt as you are right now I would do 1/3 feeding's 2/3 fresh water top off. Over watering isn't really an issue with coco unless you get the bricked shit that becomes very fine like dirt, the bagged variety's such as canna are more coarse and have no problem drying out.

This Canna Coco seems pretty damn fine to me. I dont think overwatering is too far-fetched.

But ya your definitely right i need to do some flushing once im certain they can handle a watering.
