Cannabis in the family

Curious what others have done. I live in a non legal state. My kids are well aware of my cannabis use and recently I have informed them about my grow. Since then they have started to help in the care ( their choice) of the ladies and are excited about the upcoming harvest.

I recently smoked a bowel with my daughter for the first time. She is under 18 but over 16. Not her first time.

I have decided that cannabis will be treated like alcohol. If dad wants to smoke a bowel when he gets home he will. I don't drive after smoking.

Now I know some will say that I'm running a high risk of them saying something to others but that is not much of a concern. They have seen me do a temporary patch up of a gsw at our kitchen table and never spoke of it.

I don't lie to my kids. I think they are better for it. We have been through alot last few years and have become closer. Don't get me wrong, I'm still dad and I say no sometimes and they get mad at me.
So just how bad of a parent am I?

kinda sounds like you feel internally guilty for letting them smoke help out

in my personal opinion as long as you set up rules and boundaries around marijuana that are safe for your children and they follow them than i dont see a huge problem
its when they disrespect the rules and they say go driving high or bring their friends over to share some of your stash

i remember in highschool parents would buy their children alcohol or allow them to drink, my mom never did and she never shared her pot with me.
i was no different from the ones who were allowed those.

i personally wont be allowing my child to drink until hes 19 which is the legal age in canada and only at home until hes of legal age in america

I think you're taking an appropriate albeit currently progressive stance. That's my opinion. Teach your daughter about how to smoke responsibly. She's just going to do it anyway.

This is very interesting. I am a father of 2 girls. Both very young... 2.5 years and 4 months. But this has crossed my mind many times.

My 2.5 year old knows and have seen my plants but calles them floweres and that they are pretty. Haha.

I dont see a problem with it ( neither does my wife and she dosnt touch pot at all)

Its a NEW day in age... out of the stone ages and into the now.
I am also from Canada. If it is something my daughters decide they would be interested in at a much later age then now i would be ok with teaching them.

Your not a bad father for teaching your kids what is going on arround them... if anything i think you would be a bad father for sheltering them and making them look completly stupid for not knowing about weed now-a-days.

Sounds like you're starting a bowel movement in your home. I wouldn't advise smoking bowels, that's some stinky shit

I understand your decision to inform but prohibit. And maybe they won't try it on their
own. But I know my kids.
Did you stay away from all evils while in your teens?

Seriously. My 15 yo knows I smoke every day. I don't smoke around him, though. When friends come over we smoke when he's in his room occupied with something else. He smells it and sees my bongs in those cases. He's admitted that he has smoked flowers and dabs, but I told him it's off limits to him. The main reason being he's not doing as well as I expect him to in school currently. I told him that weed is for people to enjoy who have their shit together, and are doing what they're supposed to do. I told him I'll even smoke with him in a few years, and I'm not dumb enough to think he won't ever do it with friends. I just feel we need that boundary now, he's still a kid. I'd much rather he get stoned with friends than drink, which he says he doesn't really like. He doesn't know I grow, but I think he suspects as he hasn't been allowed in my 'office' for a few years now...

Take a nug of some sticky icky and roll a fat cone in front of him let him smell it and tell him this bitch has your name on it. Bring your grades up and this is how we celebrate.

No I certainly did smoke and drink that's why I said it didn't matter from the parents who bought alcohol and who didn't like mine we were all the same

I didn't mean you should prohibit your own children

My pop smokes weed, his pop and mom smoked weed right in front of him in a car at a young age, his dad tried to give him the same conversation my dad tried to give me and in both cases they did not work, i would just stay constantly getting busted at least once a week by my pop, that went on for some amount of time then one day, this gave me such lolz, i came home high and he just shook his head at me.

I'll let my teenage kids smoke only if their grades are good.

As a teen my mother never allowed me to toke but we did daily in my garage. .she would come out tell us not to smoke pot and go back to her shit...lol but never did she kick my friends out or rat them out..guess she knew we'd do it either way..and this way she knew everyone was safe and not getting into other crap..still not really a drinker at 34..but I was a good kid..good grades..job..

My mom knew I smoked in h.s. thought it was cool then but now I kinda wish she'd have been harder on me about it. I love the herb I just think young minds need time to develop. I grew up farming so by 16 I had already finished my first crop, been growing my own ever since, just wish I'd have waited a few more years

My son knows about everything I do as far as growing goes. Its kinda interesting that once you take the mystery away from something that kids no longer pay much attention to it.

He is 12 and knows better than to open his mouth about anything. He helped trim once then realized how much that sucks and just occasionally looks to see how big they are now. His mom is the only one that smokes in our house and he knows he wont be smoking for years from now.

My son isnt sheltered from anything and its never been a problem. Now we are learning how to grow mushrooms, should be fun

I wouldn't hide it from my kids, I probably wouldn't be open with it until I was confident they knew not to talk about growing, even if it was legal. Kids understand more than adults give them credit for. I know when I started figuring this shit out, and my parents started being more honest, I wondered what other stuff I was lied to about, and tried more than I probably would have if I had accurate, truthful info.
