Cannabutter - I want my THC back!

Alright, so after my last harvest (Super Lemon Haze), I made 2lbs of cannabutter with approximately 4 ounces of middle-high grade trim + popcorn buds. Decent ratio, right? I let it dry, blended it into almost a powder, then simmered it in a water / butter mixture for about 6-8 hours for each pound (1lb on two different days).

The butter? It's good. It gets me high. But wow, does it ever make my baked goods taste like absolute ass. It's at the point now where I have had about 1.7 lbs of butter in my freezer for almost 2 months, and I just have no desire to go near it. It's a real plant-y taste that I just can't shake.

To cover the taste, I've used:

-garlic bread (BAD)
-regular toast + a chaser of a tasty drink (BAD)
-chocolate chip cookies (bad)
-oatmeal cookies + peanut butter on top (the best combo, but still very bad lol)

Now I know people might tell me to bake them into brownies, but I've made brownies before and I just don't think they will be able to cover this taste...

So here's what I'm thinking. The THC is currently in the butter. To the best of my knowledge, it is dissolved in the lipids of the butter (not chemically bonded I don't think, just dissolved). Please, somebody correct me if I'm wrong on the chemistry there.

What I want to do is get all my THC back. I want to concentrate it into a form that doesn't make me want to gag when I eat it. Are there methods that exist, or that you can think of, of adding a solvent or running the cannabutter through an extraction process to get my THC back. Something like adding isopropanol? I really have no idea.

If anybody wants to share some ideas or help me figure out a method, I'm all ears!

(Thanks everyone!)

Why don't you just use less canna butter and more normal butter when your making baked goods :eyesmoke:

Are you straining it properly? Good friend of mine uses about an ounce of weed per lb of butter which makes about 94 reasonably sized fucking mind blowing cookies.
I raareely ever taste a hint of weed, it's mainly due to his anal like straining that gets the trick done. Hope this helped.

Ill take it off your hands.I guarantee I know some Mexicans that can make some good food with it.Ihave had some great food made out of goat head, end trails pig head armadillo to name a few.

Replace your milk in your cereal with the cannabutter, bacon makes everything takes good.Stay Gold

Haha, thanks for the suggestions guys... I do strain it with cheesecloth, I swear! Maybe it's because I ground the weed so fine (flour-like) so a lot of the particles pass through the strainer.

If I bake with less cannabutter though, then I'm going to have to eat a lot more to get high!

Ah well... The cannabutter isn't useless or anything, and I will still slowly consume it - I was just hoping to maybe get it purified some more.

Let it sit out with the top off of your edibles
I noticed mine had a leafy taste to it until I let it sit out for a couple hours and then they were tasting good

you could always try making up a bunch of buffalo sauce with it.... buffalo sauce is mainly butter and hot sauce.... i would imagine the hot sauce would dominate over the leaf in the flavor arena...... Only suggestion I have at the moment:mrgreen:bongsmilie

1 cup frank's red hot
1/2 cup butter
2 teaspoons cayenne

There is a recipe you could use that I just got off the web
Killer idea gogrow, I will have to try that sometime :blsmoke:

I cant remember who it was, but someone a ways back posted a thread about the buffalo.... they evidently made a huge batch, got carried away eating, and ended up having a horrible night... for some reason, i want to say it was nowstopwhining...... but since then, it struck me as a neat idea for edibles, as i have had the leaf-taste too many times myself:eyesmoke:

Some guy today insisted that him and his friends "squeeze" the bud until the "liquid THC" comes out. Then they smoke it in a "crack pipe"

water cure for a few days. No taste in your butter and it is no longer green.
Water cure the next harvest? I'll do that next time. Unless you mean I should soak my butter in water for a while ;)...

Also, I'll try that hot sauce recipe next time - sounds like a good idea!

EDIT: Just a follow-up though, guys... Getting back to the chemistry of it all - would it be possible to put the cannabutter in a stronger solvent to get the THC out? I'm guessing nobody has tried this, so I might just have to take a small sample of my butter and experiment with it, and let you guys know.

You dont have to do the harvest - just what you are going to turn into butter. One day will leach most of the chlorophyll out. And you can do successive days if you want it to just taste and look like butter.

Yeah, sorry - I meant that part of my harvest that I am going to make butter with. I don't think I'd water cure my smoking buds, since that method kind of scares me haha...

I won't be making another butter batch for a while though, since I have 1.7lbs of already made butter in the freezer now, and I'm just deciding what to do with it.

Boil the butter up with some fresh water, the taste goes into the water, the thc stays in the butter - seperate by cooling as usual. Repeat as necessary.
