Alright so I'm about four weeks into my grow right now and it has been a journey. Started the seeds at my friends house in his attic until his mom found it...so it got moved to my place and it is now in the corner of my room. Anyway, at the beginning me and my friend germinated hella bagseed and planted them in soil, four in each with about 4x4 inch pots (which was a terrible decision) and we had them under one 48'' flouro with ecolux plant & aquarium and daylight bulbs. This was then moved to my house, placed in the corner, and covered with an emergency blanket (which was sort of tented with a metal wire I strung up to fit over the lights). The lights were hung from the ceiling (about 4 feet cus its like slanted if that makes sense) and the plants grew okay.
At two weeks we transplanted the sixteen that were sprouted and healthy into about 8 inch pots and the roots were pretty tangled for the ones that were four to a pot, so some of the roots got messed up, but overall the transplant was successful. After a couple days back and watered (also fed a little with terracycle) they all were healthy except for one that was kinda drooping and yellowing (its better now but still a little droopy).
I got another light + the same bulbs so it was double the light (but still not enough). That was all up until about a couple days ago, I think a couple plants still in the soil (we left the eight biggest in soil) are in veg and the rest are really close.
So the other day I saw this thing on hydro and aero stuff and it was like a book on how to grow hydro/aero and like homemade stuff you can make. So I got that and set up a rubbermaid tote-ish thing with pvc on the inside and little micro sprayer type things that spray 16 3' net cups filled with clay pebble things. The one problem is, the tote is clear which might affect root growth. Does anyone know if light affects the growth of the roots? Help would be great. Anyway, so I set that shit up and I realize I'm only gonna have enough room to grow about six plants (maybe if I can keep em small) so I took some of the sixteen and Tried a transplant from soil to aero...which was pretty hard, but I think it worked. What I did was take a few of the the plants outside (the smaller ones that I could risk killing and the droopy/yellowing ones) and dug around the roots until I could pull it out, and then got the hose sprayer on mist setting and misted away all the dirt till only the roots were left, and i put them in the system inbetween all the clay pebbles. It has been around ten hours from the transplant, and all of them seem to be doing well. Oh, and I decided to experiment a little with some cloning solution I got. I took one of the plants and just cut it at the base, dipped it in the cloning stuff, and put it in a little soil thing (the circular ones that you get wet and they expand into little balls) and it wilted immediately, and looked like it was going to die. Then, after I put it in the aero system, it hasnt died yet, and I think it has actually perked up a tiny bit. I wasnt really expecting it to work anyway, but we shall see what happens. I also started some more seeds I got in some of the little soil things and put them in the Aero system too.
Today was also a big lighting day. I bought two more fixtures + bulbs and got that rigged up, so now there are two over the aero res (one for each line of eight cups) and then one directly over the soil plants, and one on the side facing towards them. This is all covered by double layered emergency blankets, and there is a fan blowing air in. I think I'll be able to get pics soon but I'm not sure. Any help or comments would be great, and thanks for reading that massive block of text lol.
A couple questions...
Do you think this is enough light, or should I get some CFL's (I cant get a MH or HPS) to add more light?
As far as nutes go, What should I be adding? (for both aero and soil)
In the res I have a couple tablespoons of molasses, some ecogrow which is 20-6-12 and some Neptunes Harvest Fish and Seaweed stuff that is 2-3-1. Also I have like half a bottle of terracycle, which I dont think you can burn with. Pretty much the same for the soil ones, but I also have some blood meal that is 13-0-0...
What is the smallest size you can take clones at? I want to clone one of the bigger ones soon and put it in the Aero System.
That is all.
Damn that was a long post, took me two bowls to write it
Peace
