If you have your thermometer to close to the light it can read wrong from radiant heat.

Start by pushing it out of the ceiling the tents in. Don't just let it recirculate.

If you don't vent the hot air out of the room or out the window you'll be chasing hot air like a dog chasing his tail. Also keeping your ducting as straight as possible will make your fan more efficient.
