Can't get rid of root rot

Experts, please help. I have been struggling to get rid of root rot for the past several weeks. I'm not quite sure how to proceed at this point. My plants are struggling along - not recovering, but not dying. I'm about to give up on DWC and go back to soil.

Details:
30 days vegging
DWC tub, 10 gal, 2 plants
Two 60-gallon air pumps connected to three air stones
Res temps are ~68F
MH light about 14" above plants
Air temps range from 66-84
DWC container is solid black
Lid has reflective tape - no light should be getting in

Roots look like they have brown snot on them. One set of roots had what appeared to be green balls (like algae) underneath the slime.
Roots in the water are pretty health. Those that are in the air gap between the water and bottom of the next pot are the worse.

I have tried:
1. Blocking all light
2. Adding airstones.
3. Adding 3% H2O2
4. Adding Hydrozome (at different times from the H2O2)
5. Dipping the roots in a very strong H2O2 solution, only to have the rot come back the next day.
6. Changing the res weekly
7. Adding 3% H2O2 to the res between changes
8. Using Foxfarm organic nutes (~650ppm)

The leaves are wilty - they look like a plant that's overwatered (which I assume is not enough air due to the root rot). I have had some PH problems; if I PH at 5.8, the PH climbs within 24 hours to 6.8. I figure I need to take care of root rot before worrying too much about the PH.

Last night I changed the res. I let the roots soak in a pretty strong 3% H2O2 solution - it's was bubbling, but it knocked down most (not all) of the slime. 24 hours later all of the slime is back on the roots.

Any suggestions? Do you need more info?

Many thanks in advance.

I'm a newbie(in my 3rd week of flowering) and I read that when using any ORGANIC nutes, never use H202. Exactly why, I don't know, but I'm sure either someone will explain or you can search the forum/internet for info.

Are you leaving at least a 2" gap between the bottom of the net & the water? Are you using a liquid pH down?

Stablizing the pH is so important to keeping everything balanced.

Sorry that I couldn't help more.

Have you tried 35% food grade H202? They should have it at your local hydro shop or you can order online - this has always helped if root rot came visiting.

What nutes are you using?

i'd definately try the measured amount of some stronger H202, and is the air you put through the airstones 66-84F ? if the air is creeping up towards 84 that won't go nicely with the resevoir temps being lower...

as GringoLoco mentioned, what nutrients? and have you tried others?

BlueyBong: it's not recommended to use H202 for organics, as it's not organic.. is all.

i had overcome a nasty fight with root rot/pythium....rez temps were too high, let me help you out, you said u got hygrozyme in effect right? well the bottle says you can use H2o2 with it, just small amounts, say 1ML/gal to play it safe, and thats with 35%h2o2, if you dont have it or dont wanna use it cus it will interfere with your organics dont use it then, but after applying the hygrozyme, wait 2 days, in that time you will see that brown slimey grog floating in the water, the roots will actually look worse, thats ok, i changes the rez after 2 days cus i didnt want that grog getting sprayed back at my roots in my aero system, after that initial dose of hygrozyme, i gave 1ml/gal h2o2 and hygro...no nutes, but before the rez change i completely sterilized the system with h2o2 and HOT water, you can also use alcohol, after this bath keep changing the rez every 2 days to try to keep a cleaner enviroment, you will wind up using more hygrozyme this way but after 5 days u should have small new roots and by 10-12 days our old brown roots get eaten away, hygrozyme might be the single most important aspect of our systems as it fixes our mistakes and keeps youer plants in good health, if you listen to me you will have success, using that stuff i met people on this site maintaining high rez temps and being able to pull it off...PS its gonna look ugly before it gets better

seriously, you should chill out with giving the roots a bath of h2o2, one error in mix strength and your roots will burn up

Thanks, everyone, for the help.

Just to clarify:

Using Foxfarm hydro nutes (my mistake - not organic)

My air may be a bit on the warm side - I can relocate the pumps to pull in fresher air.

I'm having a hard time getting 35% H2O2 - only one hydro shop where I live, and the owner claims that H2O2 is getting harder to buy (are they banning it?). I will check a farm/feed supply store to see if they have stronger H2O2.

In the mean time, I have added more H2O2 to my res - and as of this morning, it looks like it may be working. The slime has turned white. Maybe I wasn't using enough 3% - I have about 10 gallons in the res - so I added about 120ml of 3%.

I'll keep you posted on progress. Thanks for the help. If you can think of anything else please let me know.

aside from the hydro shop, online and also Hair dressers supply carry them, for hair dye, dude just use hygrozyme and your problems will go away, if you dont use either hygrozyme or a rhizotonic you will always get root issues, its all about preventative maintanence

I am also having some problems with my DWC system! I am not having root rot but more of A mucas growing on the root's and airstone.. I am to the point of switching back to my old E & F table! Right when I think I have it handled it comes back.

hygrozyme or similar product, watch rez temps too, or use h2o2, any of these methods help eat up anything that does not belong in your rez

BTW, I finally solved this problem by using 3% H2O2 every other day. Just a bit in the rez seemed to keep the roots clean and healthy.
