Stelthy - just had a look at your 200 page journal, pretty impressive, you seem a master of cabinets! Forgive me for skipping through to the pretty pictures and only reading selected text... but come on man, 200 pages??!! :)

Spent some time on my grow room today, gave it a first coat of matt white, and built the stud work for the final 4th wall (which will be made of 75mm insulation boarding)

Still have to put 2 more of my smaller reflectors in, but i'm pretty happy.

Also some pics of my veg cupboard... yes there is loads more that I could do, but it's a fitted wardrobe in a rented house, can't bugger it about too much.

I was thinking of using one of these to draw some excess hot air out of my veg cupboard, it doesn't get too hot but could use a hand. And maybe one to help the air INTAKE of my flower room.

And maybe wrap it in some of this, which I doubt will kill all the smell, but it has to help, right? As it is I don't find my veg room too stinky, and if you shut the bedroom door, it doesn't escape into the rest of the house anyway.

I'd love more info on that. I'm going to Google it this AM . Thanks
The official name for the 'Chopper-Stopper' is "MEGALUX/MEGA-SHIELD" I'll try n find a LINK

Zero Thermal Radiation

A black and silver zero thermal radiation reflective polypropylene mylar sheet that works in a similar way to ADF film but is more advanced. It is infused with metals that give it special properties that are highly reflective, completely light tight and stop infrared heat from being emitted, bouncing back into the room. Ideal if you need to keep full control of your growing enviroment,

Poly Shield is a Black and White poly that has been infused with metals that give properties that are both highly reflective and insulative. Poly Shield provides the same vapor barrier as regular black and white poly and adds reflectivity and insulative qualities. All objects with a temperature above absolute zero emit infrared radiation.

The hotter an object gets, the more infrared radiation it emits. These emissions cannot be seen with the naked eye. The resulting picture contains various shades, depending upon how much infrared radiation the object is emitting. A thermal imager is extremely sensitive and reportedly can detect temperature variations as small as 0.1 degrees centigrade.

Hope thats helpful to growers everywhere :) - STELTHY :leaf:

I'm confused about this product and others like it. FLIR will see a surface that has a significantly different temp than another surface. Fine. In reading about this, the rolled materials will warm up just like any other mass. Put a roll of that in a hot car for a day and it will come out as hot as the car. So if it's lining a grow room, sooner or later it will come up to temperature. If it indeed works at all over time, I would imagine it's because it has reflected some percentage (not all) of heat back into the room. I guess it's like one of those thin silver survival blankets. Can reflect some body heat, but not a substitute for a parka.

After reading about this product vs. other materials / techniques, I'd be scared to rely on a plastic film.

sorry to jack this thread but just seems like an appropriate place to get a quick reply ,ive got two plants in veg and im wondering ow much they will stink ,ive got them in a cupboard in an upstaires bedroom and i have sealed the door as much as i can with plastic bags ,do you think the will be able to be subsided with liberal use of air freshener?,and again sorry to jack the thread.

What other methods do you know of? .. I used it to cover the out side of my cab.. I didn't care for its light reflecting qualities as Mylar is much better.. I used it on the cool exterior, Silver side in, Black side out - STELTHY :leaf:

well, I have not looked at this in great detail, but having a more massive insulated barier, like an insulated wall, or cement wall is what other references mentioned. So Original building exterior wall, small air gap, then new insulated wall. No way for heat to make it through both the new and old walls. Also, while sources will say that FLIR can detect extremely small temp fluctuations, they don't fly around on that sensitivity level, obviously. With a more macro setting, there's less for us to worry about.

I think a big giveaway is directly porting exhaust out a window. Huge thermal plume with no mass between the exhaust and the FLIR

See, that's what scares me about some things. "Must" is mighty strong, and as far as I can tell, simply an opinion. While everone is entitled to an opinion, I have a harder time when people say "must." Leads people to believe it is not an opinion, but rather a fact, as though it will for sure work over time in a real life setting.

As I said I have not tried to become a scholar on the subject, but I questioned the marketing after reading a bit more of the science behind FLIR. We need to keep in mind that if there is a fear, there will be a company ready, willing and able to sell you a product to calm your fear. Doesn't at all mean it will work or was necessary.

Maybe this product works as advertised, but I fear people may be overly relying on it. My opinion

Yeah man! That makes sense :) I will look into secondary insulated walls and also in my loft space too.. its always good to look into several ways of doing something, and even better to use more than just one of those ideas :) - STELTHY :leaf:

Believe me, I'd like to think it works super well. And maybe it does. I just haven't seen anything aside from the manufacturers literature that says it works, while an often-refrenced article specifically describes plastic films as less effective. On the other hand, a small air gap and good ol' mass from an insulated drywall / plasterboard wall and you're invisible thermally. Old school

no problem with jacking :)

I had a few plants in a cupboard, not particularly well sealed, and after reaching about 10" they really stunk...the whole house...but pretty much stayed in the bedroom if i shut the bedroom door. All varieties are different, but I think you may have a problem. All you can really do is wait and hope for the best, maybe they wont smell during veg, but when they hit flower... they will wreak, in a good way :)
