Case fan hookup

So without going into great detail, Bestbuy has case two different sized case fans one 80mm and one 120mm. I'm trying to get an 80mm rigged up for my intake, and a 120mm for my exhaust. The 120mm moves around 40cfm so a little on the low side.

What I'm wondering is if I hook an 80mm up to a 120mm and then up to a power supply will that fry them or not?

I was reading an article where a guy rigged up his case fans to a 12 volt cell charger and made it work. Even if this doesn't have the capability to start on fire, would you think having a power supply with too many volts would fry the fan over time?

Two fans on a normal outlet, no problem!

Why bother with the intake vs going passive. The exhaust will suck in all she needs.

Now...what about odor control? I don't know if a home depit fan will cut it. So my advice would be to skip both, get a real fan for exhaust using the money saved on going passive intake.

I've got a carbon filter that I'm using to control the smell. Basically two pencil cones, carbon in between the cones and pantyhose acting as a container for the carbon and over the outer pencil cone. There's other people who swear by it, but I've got a really small area that I'm working with, so having an inline fan for my grow would more than likely be impractical.

Or did you mean something else by passive intake? I'm pretty new to a lot of terminology so bear with me.

Passive intake merely means having an opening at the bottom of the tent for intake and nothing more. Assuming the tent outside of that is more or less sealed, the fan exhausting the air essentially creates the negative pressure to automatically suck in new air through that hole. I have a L shaped piece of ductwork on the outside of it with a screen over the end to prevent light from entering through the intake.

That sounds simple enough. Do you think that the carbon filter will be enough for the smell control? I didn't want to spend hundreds on a commercial air filter since I'm just starting out.

Best is leave your inlet passive and put he grunt into the outlet, look close at the fan it will say 12 volts DC, direct current and at 500Ma or milli amps, ensure you find and adapter with 12v dc, at 500Ma(1/2 an amp) otherwise somethings gonna go bad when you least expect it...true look around for a used cell/laptop charger are good

Good to know, I'm looking at a fan that is a little more powerful at around 86cfm. I was planning on pushing air from the exhaust into the filter. I've read that doing so can render the filter less effective, any weight to that statement?

You actually put the filter before the fan so the fan is sucking air into the filter, not pushing it into it.

btW, they are not cheap but i love my phresh filter!

Yeah, space is an issue so hooking up my filter inside of my grow space is going to cut into plant room. I'd be able to attach the fan to the internals of my box with a zip tie special, not really the route that I wanted to go but it sure beats having smell drifting around.
