Cfl and floro veg question

Hey guys. I have no problem finding a cfl of pretty much any watt at 2700k if i want to flower with them, which i dont, the only things I can find to veg are 5000k not the 6500k I want! The same goes for the floros I'm looking at T5s that are 4100k.

I'm guessing all these bulbs I found are useless bc it's not the right spectrum.

I only checked Home Depot they had 120 watt equivalent cfls and t5s but only in the spectrum I said. You guys got any ideas? I checked homedept first bc I can get a pack 5 25watt cfl for 10$ right now to bad I don't want 2700k and don't thing 5000k will veg/clone/seed well.

Unless the 5000k will work ok for me bc I'm not going to be in veg long. Keep'em girls small

Ya, 5000 will work fine. Not optimal, but good enuf you wont see much of a difference. If u want, just buy the T5 for now and order a bulb. Have em ship it to ur local home depot, use the 4100 for now.

I recommend that if using CFLs you mix your spectrum 3 to 1...3 5000k (if not 6500k) and 1 2700k for flower...you will obviously need more than 3 lights...lol...but you get the idea...I use to do CFLs and I found I needed around 120w per plant and all around it as close as possible...good luck...

Cool thanks guys. I did a quick look and couldn't find 1 daytime cfl over 5000k. I think I'm going to go with the t5 4100 and run that for my first veg than order new bulbs. Money is there but on a budget lol. And just to assure myself like one of you guys said you use 120w/plant. Is this for veg or flower? I'm going to go with a hps to flower thinking a 400w 2700k I'm planing on 4 plants grown to 3.5' that should be good right maybe through in a few cfls.
I don't really want to buy things twice and deal with trying to sell the old stuff. I can get an hps 400w air cool tube for 120 and a 600 for 140. So buy the time I but enough cfls and fixtures the numbers are kind of close.

If I get a 2' t5 that holds two bulbs how many do I did to veg and clone? I'm lookin to do a short veg only grow them to 12" than straight to flower. I'm hoping to eventual have a perpetual harvest

Thank you all for the tips this is a great community

Also is it sketchy to be on this forum and so open about everything I'm a little paroniod and I wanna post pics etc

Cool thanks just wasn't sure if the main can get my info from tracing it to my email. But I'm also growing for myself maybe a little cash crop on a small scale so I'm sure ill be fine. Pics if the hydro set up soon to come

How many watts of the t5s will I need? Feel like what I found was 2 2' 40ish watt bulbs 4100k so that gives me 80ish actual watts. Do I need 100/plant to veg if I'm keep'en them small

Actual wattage is the same, about 100w/plant. a 4 bulb 4' HO T5 with 54w T5 bulbs puts out about 216w. by "keeping them small" i assume you mean height-wise; you still ought to pop 100w/plant on em, just manage your canopy and trim fan leaves not getting light.
best of luck

Thanks DrJ this kinda 2 part question in order to ask the main question, so if I'm planing on flowering 3 or 4 plants and I get 10 seeds, germ either 3 or 4 than put to veg would a t5 with 4 54w = 216 work well for 2 plants in veg and 5 42w = 210 for another 2 plants to veg. Or just get 2 of the 4 bulb t5s. Basically however I can get 100w to each plant in veg. But then around my 3 week of flowering I want to make clones. Would I just make 4 clones and hope they all take? I always see these clone trays with a bunch of plants in them.

I'm going to veg and clone in the top 2' of the closet and flower in the bottom half. So with what I plan on doing how many watts should I set up to veg. I only have a 6 "inline fan that I'm going to use as an exhaust to the hps cool tube connected to a carbon filter ill make. I'm not trying to vent the veg part with exhaust fans.
Thanks guys

Thank you for the link kind sir. I'm hoping I can find those in a store if not that link is perfect.

Another question regarding money for this veg lighting. I found a 400w MH with reflector, bulb, ballast for $130. By the time I reach 400w with the t5s and cfls I'm deff over $130.

Now I thought cfl and floro would be better on energy but 400w being used is 400w whether HID or floro or cfl. Correct? So is the only reason to go with the t5s and cfls to veg is to keep the temps down? From what I read the MH is significantly greater results.

It seems like they are marketed as lighting for studio photography if that's any help for finding them in a store, might try a photography store. I got mine thrugh Aamazon and like them. You can get 2700K and other colors as well.

Regarding the rest of your post I think you got it all figured out. If you can handle the heat get the 400W and for a few $ maybe toss in some supplemental cfl''s on the sides. Plus it would be good to have a little CFL setup on hand in case you ever had a ballast problem and had to go without your HID a coupe days.

Heres a couple kits in your price range w/2 bulbs:

Bongboy, your right. Watts = watts, HID, Floro, CFL or LED, its all the same power consumption. If your going to veg with different lights than what ur flowering with, go with LED. I used a cheap 300w LED i got on ebay to veg with and HOLY CRAP my nodes are TIGHT. You can keep ur plants short, but still big and bushy. I have 3 300w LEDs right now, all from ebay. First 1 cost me $91, the second 2 were $120 each. 900 watts of LED for $311 is a great deal.

That MH HID for $130 is a good price, but your going to pay for it with electricity costs. LEDs run much more efficiently. During flowering most people will argue and say HPS is better, but im flowering with LEDs.

Hmmmm I like the idea of a cheap 300w led to veg can you post a link to the $90 one or exactly what I should be looking for. Even for 120 for 300w I'm paying for cfl and floros.

But didn't ya kinda contradict yourself that watts are watts? Isn't 900w used by an led the same as 900w used by and HID
Or does it not work like that? Bc we go by true wattage correct?
For instance I have led high hats they give off 65w but use 9.5 so if I wanted to grow with these I would have to use 10 of them to reach Almost 100w/plant not 2 of them bc that not the actual wattage.
Also how come I see some guys flower w 1000 but veg with 600 and set ups like that is it to give more light in flower but still wouldn't be vegging more than 6 plants
Thanks for all the help guys I know I'm going to use a 400w hps to flower but I can't figure out what to use to veg that is the most economical in everyway the floros, cfl, MH all are around the same price range but I'm confused as to the cfl and floro and led cost less to run than MH if they really don't cost less to run and heat isn't an issue why wouldn't everyone with the room run MH?

You guys are all super helpful I wish the car forums I'm on we're as helpful lol

I just saw a grow tent that said comes with a 90w led that works like a 400w hps. How could this be if you need 400w/plant and the led is only 90. Is it BS and don't work that well
