Brand new to the forums. Insanely inspired by them already. I have found a great deal if information already and realize what started as a hobby / "let's see what happens" idea, will work if I pay close enough attention to detail.
To start, I read Buds for Less. Using CFLs appeals to me bc they seem less "dangerous" and considerably cheaper in energy costs (I think). Trying to be as economical as possible, I quickly made use of two work lights ($7 at home depot) from an earlier crawlspace insulation project and purchased two 11L pots, miracle gro potting soil, perlite as well as two 42W CFLs
Using a shorterned wooden mop handle, three hooks and two lengths of chain as a mounting system, I set up an old dresser 48"h 31"w 16"d as my grow area.
I think things are going decently well. I've realized I could probably make more efficient use of the space but want to first be successful to prove it's worth a bigger investment.
I am sure I need more lights / better set up for foliage penetration. As stupid as it sounds, I am concerned I don't understand how to safely build the simple fixture in the Buds for Less opening.
I've considered trying to ScrOG bc I think it will enable me to use more top lighting w just several more CFLs. I also left about four inches between the top of the soil and the top of the pot and later added foil when I came to see how dumb a mistake that was. The foil seemed to encourage a better foundation to the plant as I'm sure the uncovered plastic just absorbed much of the light. I figure the ScrOG may be helpful bc this "enclosed" grow area between soil and top of pot will be unlikely to produce anything due to lack of light penetration.
I've rambled. Smoked another bowl and almost forgot I had pictures. Thanks for checking this out. I can tell a ton of good people can help me a great deal and can't wait to see what's up next!
