Generaly the soft white is cool(blue) and then there is warm or daylight(red)

to your eyes they will appear white, it is the light spectrum that is emmiteed that is important.

for veg you want 5600k color temp, and 2700k color temp for flowering.

I have had great success by having a few growlux(or there counter parts)these grow bulbs are actually red and make the buds nice.

From the research I have done the daylight spectrum cfl's are best for veg. When you put a soft white cfl next to it in comparison you will notice it has a red tint, the daylight cfl very blue. I have seen several high end lamps that display both spectrum so I figure an even mix of both would promote a wider color spectrum which would be better during flowering. Look for the highest wattage. Keep them as close as possible.

23 watts spirals they seem to be working pretty good for only being on for 12 hours so far a lot of new growth and a few more came out of the soil im hoping when i get home today there will be more

make sure you keep them close, they aren't hot enough to burn.

Those daylight CFLs from HomeD put out more lumens than the soft or cool white lights, I would assume they are better for vegging. But I think some of the more red CFLs would be better for flowering.

I am on my second CFL grow and I use 8 26w cool daylight for veg, And 8 26w, 2 40w, and 4 40 watt flood/spot light cfl's for flower. They work great for my 3X3 closet.

The ones i use for vegging are from home depot and are Philips 27w 'Daylight' and are 6500K. The soft white ones have a reddish color and are better suited for flowering. Philips - 27W Twister Compact Fluorescent Lamp Medium Base 6500K - 160184
