CFL help

Normally I would post things like this in newbie central, but i'm looking for answers and input directly from cfl growers. What would be some benefits using cfls over say a 1000 watt hps? You wouldn't need as much ventilation besides a few fans right? Could I expect the same results using cfls when using LST?

there are higher wattage cfls you can get that seem to work great just not for growing big plants , they could cover a cubic foot or 2 of area maybe. one guy said the lights for growing saltwater corals work for plants, everyone tries different lights

you would need a ton of cfl's to do what a 1000 watt hps does even if you lst...
Yeah true. I was gonna buy alot if I decided to take that route. Even if a bought 20 of em it would be less $ than a hps and all the other stuff you gotta buy with it. Plus energy cost would be less.

the benifit to having a HID system is you can get a nice cooltube or aircooled hood to help controll temps, when you put a shit ton of CFL in a grow space it heats up.

the higher wattage CFL bulbs end up actually putting off less light than a bunch of smaller bulbs, say 4x 26w CFL bulbs 105W total will put off better light than a 105w CFL (i have both) so your better off just buying a bunch of 26-40w CFL.

get a 400 or 600w HID you wil lbe glad you did

With a cooltube/aircooled hood you would still need ducting right? And what wattage hps would you recommend for ten plants a 1000?

There's alot of factors to count in for size of an HPS. 600w is ideal for 4'x4', 1000w 5'x5'. yes you would still need ducting. with a air cooled reflector, and 6" or 8" inline fan.

I bought a 1000w and have yet to use it. For my setup I need an inline fan, carbon filter, and duct muffler, about 300 bucks worth of shit, spent 200 on bulb, balast, and hood. I have to run electricity too. Shouldn't use extension cords for 1000w. Kinda screwed myself seeing as I don't have job. Stay high.

Yeah man plus the seeds you buy, and soil, and potting containers, grow tent, nutes, and the electric bill. I think I might flowering using soft white cfls. I think I can get away with it.
