So I'm planning to buy a 250w cfl bulb with the wing reflector online I was just wondering if I need a ballast to run the light?

No you do not need a ballast for a cfl light. But make sure its a cfl light and not a 250 watt hps light bulb. If its a hps bulb, then yes you will need a ballast.

Make sure you are dealing with actual wattage. For instance, a 100w cfl is commonly only 23 actual watts.

Yeah its actual wattage it's one of those big ones with the wing reflector

u cant afford to use a reflector with any fluorescent bulb, not strong enough...needs to be ontop of the girl

When I was using cfl, I had t8's overhead and hung my cfl's vertically beside/between/inside the plants.
