whats the difference?cfls cheaper to run and a less hotter heat?.......neva really put alot of thought into the bulbs i use..

My hps does get hot, but I can keep it cool. It's puttin out aroud 50,000 lumens from one bulb. Do the math and try to get 50,000 out of cfl's. The heat generated by all those cfl's i'm sure would be a lot more than the one hps. My energy bill only went up 5 or 6 bucks a month with it too.

I am using an Envirolight 200w because I use a small cab. With this bulb I dont have to worry too much about heat and I can still get nice buds :)

I have 2 of those 1 for Veg (blue) and 1 for flow (red) using that very simple reflector pictured above. Like I said before, I can have my plants very close to the lamp even when they are just seedling, and much easier to deal with high temperature in a small grow cab than an HPS.

I am not saying anything about HPS or MH lamps but for my cab and my growing needs no more than 2 plants at a time it's perfect.

As far as the plants themself, the one on the first picture was topped nothing more and I just let the other do it's own thing.
Hope this helps you a bit.

The hps is a much stronger light and u can use it in soil, or hydro. When ur using cfl's, u gotta keep the bulbs super close to the plant to avoid stretching because the cfl's don't have the lumens the hps does to penetrate all the parts of the plant.

so envirolite is a cfl?cuz thats wot im using,i bend the plants and bring the light real close (5inch),my buds r no way as dense as the guy with the blue cheese, the temp is 70 and humidity varies around 60??

CFLs for seedling, HPS for veg/flowering.

Mh is preferable for vegetative growth, but if you can only afford one, go with the HPS.
