CFL PC Case Micro Grow

ok guys, let me say first of all its nice to be posting here again. been lurking again for a week or so. checking out similar grows and all that nice stuff.

im gonna be doing a small indoor grow to accompany the outdoor i have going at the minute that if im completely honest hasnt gone well at all.
i planted 10 plants and within 2 weeks 8 had been eaten. so im left with 2 reg white widows that havent even preflowered yet so im not holding out much hope as were are nearly at the end of the UK summer.

back to business, i going to be growing 1 plant inside of a pc case i built last year but never got around to using.

CAM00152.jpgCAM00153.jpg

had it doing a dry run for the last couple days and max temp has been 80.6f / 27.0c which i think is about perfect. RH is at 50% so a right in the middle.

im gonna veg for 3-4 weeks depending on growth. i will be growing in coco using the lucas formula (GH Flora Micro + Bloom only) as it has done me solid in the past. im also in the process of purchasing a 2gl / 7.6ltr smart pot and a suitable tray for water collection as my space here is quite limited (15cm /6" x 30cm / 12") and i want to maximise the space as best as possible. for veg i will be using a single 65w 6500k cfl and for flower i will be using 1x 45w 2700k cfl and 1 x 23w 2700k cfl.

i have started this thread today as i would like some input on which strain would suit best. i have been looking at some heavy indica short flowering plants but am a bit undecided on what to get, its gonna be either dinafem critical kush or barneys vanilla kush.

i will be using lst all the way, i have considered a scrog but it will cause too many issues if i ever have to take the plant out and managing a scrog in such a small space seems a lot of extra effort.

anyways guys as always input and comments are welcome and encouraged and ill keep this as up to date as possible. we should be ready to kick off in the next week or so once the last few bits have arrived

Drill some holes in the top and put the exhaust fan there. And you need a lot more CFL's for flowering if you want it to be worthwhile.

ive seen more than one person pull an oz+ with 69w of cfl. im not expecting huge amounts by any extent. if i feel it is necessary then i may buy a 125w envirolite but probably not. and worthwhile depends on the persons perception doesnt it?.

dont really see how putting an exhaust fan on top is going to help me, the temps are stable i have one fan for exhaust and one pulling in fresh air. would you care to elaborate on why you think it would help?

Critical Kush is a good one and Kosher Kush too.

Kosher is an almost 100% indica with phenos that make it stretch rather than bush. If you LST it or something you can train it like a vine and will work well inside small spaces.
(You can see four in the "maturing box" in my sig.)

I believe he is recommending the extra exhaust fan to reduce the heat from the CFL and increase airflow. 80F is not bad but when you consider a bush with limited airflow and hot lights. The environment would be less than ideal. An extra exhaust fan in something this small may allow for the plants to get a little closer to the light and evacuate any heat from the CFL. Ideally if you could get around 75F you will grow faster.

hey blujayz, thank you for the elaboration.

what i forgot to mention was that the ambient air temperature is 24.5c / 75f, this will be running through the winter months when there will usually be a avg tep drop of 7-8c so ambient temps are usually 16-17c / 61-64f.

as far as i can tell this will give me temps between 22-25c / 72-75f give or take a degree or 2. i can see why having the exhaust above the light would help with temps in that sense. all i will say is if you put your hand inside the pc opposite the fan u can feel the air drag almost all the way across about 2-3" at other end you stop feeling the airflow so im not really worried about the heat hurting the plants.

hey brett, nice pc box, another brit grower here and I grew in a pc box similar to yours but only had an exhaust fan with passive intake, my white widow yielded over the ounce but only just. you will do just fine. I would top her on the 4th or maybe the 5th branch set, if you plant her to one side of the pot then you can train her along to the middle of the pot, therefore cutting out about 3" of stem thus reducing the height of the plant then plenty of lst`ing. as for lighting I used 4 x 23w cfl daylights for vegging and 4 x 23w cfl warm for flowering, but I have seen grows with just 1 23w cfl but generally the more the better. I`m looking forward to watching your grow take shape and sry to hear about the pests eating your weed, poor show ;-), good luck and happy growing :-)

hi emannn2010, i believe yours was one of the micro grows i looked through before i decided to go ahead. i remember your avatar :)

honestly i think it may have been rabbits or foxs as everything barring tiny bits of stems. i was growing with a 250w hps/mh combo last year but the missus got the hump with the cupboard buzzing all the time so i moved outside, guerilla style. but as its not going too well i have managed to convince her to let me do a little one indoors. as with any grow it is a learning curve. and yes i will be topping her. i may even mainline to get 4 stems then train the stems horizontally across the width of the pc case, who knows.

@ sire killem all

the reason i am doing it is because i enjoy growing, massive yeilds are great but i dont have the means, the time or the space to do a massive grow. i have had a couple small cupboard grows and got good yeilds. im not commercial so it doesnt matter what i get. it is only for me :)

Setups looking great, im subbed. As for the previous guys comment about modding your case for an exhaust on the top... i think he believes youll run into heat issues which as you stated is not a problem.

As for strain... id choose critical kush

just read through your whole grow and i have to say well done, i may well follow in your footsteps and stagger the harvest as it seems to have worked out well for you. i hoping that as i have a few grows under my belt i may well be able to get an oz but only time will tell.
