CFL Question. Red, Blue or White.

Hi folks newbie here. Thinking of starting a modest little grow in my cupboard, i'll only be growing one Lowryder 2 just to see if i can actually grow my own stuff. I'll be using biobizz light mix soil.

I have 2 20 watt cfls in this cupboard would this be enough? I have had my eye on a few lights on ebay ranging from a pack of 2 red and blue 45w cfls to an 85w cool white cfl.

Which would be best for this 'project'? Bearing in mind my budget isnt that great.

I'd appreciate any answers you have

Thanks!

Never heard of using red or blue cfls, i think they might just be painted or coated with something. I would use daylight bulbs for veg then warm white for flower.

What you got there are "party bulbs"... I suppose it might could kinda sorta work so long as its not green.. Your not looking for the actual color of the bulb, but the light spectrum. The K ... Kelvin Color is what to look for.

6,500K for vegetative growth, often the word "full spectrum" also appears on the box.

2,700K for Flowering, often characterized as "soft white".

If its any good at all for growing with, it should tell you the K color number.... and if they are making a serious attempt to sell the bulb to growers there might even be a graph chart that shows you how much light you get in each spectrum.

Thanks for in the info. If i were to use a 45watt cfl (white) alongside 2 20watt cfl in a pc grow box would this provide enough light?

I know you may not have the budget but if you cheap on your soil, water, or lights you are going to spend alot of time on here asking what is wrong with your plant. I have a seedling box that is running 7 100w cfls 6,500k. They call them daylight bulbs. You use those for veg and the 2,700k soft white bulbs for flowering. The more the better and keep them around 2-3 inches from the plants.
