Cheap CO2 solution

There was some lengthy discussion on a similar product posted here on the boards in this thread and I wanted to post my findings on CO2 PPM in a 2' 1/2 by 7' non-sealed closet.

I have been doing some various tests putting them in small tents to filling a large room with lots of bags. The one room is about 12' x 17' and holding steady at around 2000ppm with 5 bags.

Any of you have any questions or room sizes you would like me to test with the meter?

I have a question about mycelium how are you sure the bags do not contain any reproducing spores?

Hi Youngling,

To answer the question you need to understand how mushrooms work.

They start off as mycelium which is the white stuff you see in the bag. The mycelium spreads and consumes organic matter producing the CO2. When all the matter is consumed and conditions are right for the species of mushroom the mycelium will start to generate "fruits" which is the mushroom. These fruits generate spores which drop and the cycle continues. Prior to fruiting spores are not present.

The first step ECO2 does to prevent spores from being released is the species of mycelium. There are three major types: Saprotrophic, Mycorrhizal, and Parasitic. The first group, Saprotrophic houses the commercial mushrooms that you buy in the store. These mushrooms can fruit by decomposing sterile matter. The Second group, Mycorrhizal contains species that can only fruit if they are paired symbiotically with other organisms, typically trees. These mushrooms are difficult if not impossible to fruit in indoor environments. Thousands of dollars have been put into researching how to make them fruit for commercial to no avail.

The second prevention of spore release ECO2 takes is using a .02 micron filter patch that blocks spores from passing through, but allows CO2 to pass. So if by miracle this Mycorrhizal species decides to fruit the spores would not be released into your grow area.

1. In the environment given it would take a miracle for this species of mushroom to produce spores.
2. The bag is sealed and has a .02 micron filter blocking even the smallest spores, yet allows CO2 to escape slowly.
