Checking ph while using organic nutes?

When I add the organic nutes to the water it turns to an apple juice color. How do you accurately check ph when the water is already colored with nutes?

im not understanding what you mean....you are phing the nute solution as a whole at that point...

Ph is not color, it is the level of acids/bases in your water, 0-7, 0 being acidic, 7 being basic. The color of the water is irrelevant, veg nutes are different colors than bloom nutes anyway. You really should read through some FAQ's on this site, they help alot.

What Lola means is that she's using color-changing Ph testing solution.

The question makes sense if you think about it in those terms. She is asking how she can read the Ph by the color the solution turns if it's already Tea-colored when she begins.

I dunno. I have a Ph Meter. But it's a very good question.

oh sorry, I bet you're right. In that case I think you're screwed then, you can get a good meter on eBay for less than $20. I bought mine for $16 and the guy sent me two of them. Look around.

Yeah, thats my problem.

The lady at the grow shop said that the nutes are pretty much neutral so i just have to check before adding.

I guess I'll have to look into another tester.

You will still be able to see your color accurately... I use Botanicare organic and a color changing liquid test kit... You will get used to it... Just keep messing around with your ph up and down and test it against some clear water till you get the hang of the colors...

Holding the test bottle and the color strip bottle against a white surface will help allot...

Good luck... =]

And no matter what you are told nuts will tend to change the ph of any water... Try it... Get your water to the correct ph test it and put a little aside so you can compare... Add your nuts... Test that and compare with the clean adjusted water...
