Checking Trichomes with a camera?

I was reading elsewhere that someone would take photos with a digital, then zoom in on the photos once uploaded to check on colors....sounds like an interesting way to do it, if it works that is, any thoughts or successes with this method?

buy a 30x loupe...very effective tool
Hi I.S.K !! Ya know, right up until you posted, I was thinking that it would just be another expense to add to my first grow, then, low and behold, I took a moment to price them and realized Yup, $5 with free shipping....I'll be ordering one this week....I'm only 31 days into flower, so I've got a few weeks....as always, great to see you here!!

Yep, get a loupe. A digital camera by itself can't get that close unless it has some epic 1:1 or higher mag ratio.. Hell, my $1500 DSLR can't. It's not really about the Megapixels(image size) as it is the magnification ratio.

30x loupe pics are much better I should say but the images of those dew like trichs looks much better for effects purposes. Kinda same with how many strains are promoted in magazines. Just sayin. :-o

The loupe works for a quick look see... I use it primarily for searching for bugs and such. I also use a 4" magnifying glass for a quick look. The Micro-view is great for checking the color of the trichomes. I like the high a lot of amber gives so seeing them is important to me.

Ya need a macro lens for the camera or another excellent tool is a USB microscope for your computer. Check them out. Cheap on Ebay etc

Download the driver for it, zoom in on what you want to magnify, then snap a pic that saves to your computer. Comes with a little light in the lens too.
