Cheese and Trainwreck Outdoors

Has anyone ever tried to grow Cheese or Trainwreck (from Greenhouse seeds) outdoors?? I've got 1 of each of these seeds plus I am growing 2 autos (pakistan ryder and afghan kush). I know the Trainwreck and the Cheese are mostly sativa plants, but I'm not looking to get a lb per plant.

I've got a spot that will get pretty much full sunlight all day. I will probably top the Cheese since its so Sativa and try to get it to bush out. I might do the same thing with the trainwreck, I just don't know, I've heard it doesn't get that tall even though its a sativa. Anyone know the best way to grow these strains?

I'll be digging holes and giving both the Cheese and Trainwreck 15-20 gallons of PREMIUM soil mix. I also have some top notch vegging and blooming ferts, plus superthrive along with a few other things. Bottom line is they are going to be taken care of VERY well.

Do you think I can get a respectable yield off of these plants (say 4-5 ounces per plant)?? I'm simply growing for personal use. I need it for the medicinal value...badly. I'll make a grow journal once I get everything going in about a week. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds to me like you should get what you want out of them. I have grown Trainwreck from greenhouse seeds and think it is the best I ever smoked. I grew indoors though.
Without topping, outdoors in ground with the right soil I would say she will hit about 6 to 7 feet and yield 4 to 5 oz's easy.

It grows differently then other strains I have had, instead of buds growing up the stalk together she spreads out and forms these tall stack of calxes. I didnt get tight buds but is awesome smoke. This year TW is on the list for my outdoor grow.

Yeah, I have a friend that just RAVES about the Trainwreck. I'll be using about 15 gallons of straight Fox Farms Ocean Forest for both the cheese and TW. I'll add some perlite and a few other things like ligh warrior too (especially on top to begin with).

Here's a list of the nutrients I have to work with. Yes I have a LOT. Tell me what you think would be a good regiment:

Fox Farms Tiger Bloom
Fox Farms Big Bloom
Fox Farms Grow Big
SuperThrive
ChaChing
Open Sesame
Colossal Bud Blast
B-52
Gravity
Dutch Master Liquid Light
Dutch Master Golden Grow B
Dutch Master Golden Bloom B
Very High Output (VHO)
Rhino Skin
BioGrow
Top Max
Scorpion Juice
Beastie Bloomz
Voodoo Juice

That's why I said these plants would be VERY well taken care of. I honestly have way too much stuff. If anyone is interested in buying something that I'm not going to use, I'd gladly sale some at half the price you'd find in hydro stores. Most of this stuff is only in the 1 liter containers.

Hey Cruzer, so are you suggesting not to top the Trainwreck?? Will I get just as much production if I let it grown naturally. I imagine the Cheese will get taller and it would be advisable to top that thing. Correct me if I am wrong.

Hey guys, I think I am going to change my strategy at the start of this grow. Originally I was just going to put them outside all day to get light then bring them in at night.

I think I'm just going to buy 2 of the biggest CFL bulbs Lowes has to offer. They may be 65 watts each or so. Hook them up to a Y-adapter. I'm going to put them in a 2'x2' box with the lights right on top of the seedlings. Every other day or so I'll take them outside during the day to harden them up some, then bring them back into the box before dark.

Do you think a 24/0 schedule would be best or should I give them some kind of dark period?? Remember 2 of my strains are auto's.

Also, would adding an LED light into the box help at all?? I have no experience with LED, so I don't know if it would benefit or not??

I'm going to leave them inside for about 3 weeks, then transplant them into their holes. Hopefully by that time I'll be seeing the "explosive" growth from the autos that the seed sites talk about.

Does everything sound about right??

Yep sounds about right to me, I dont think you need leds for that short time in veg, floros will do fine. I would go 18/6 at the most 20/4 but my opinion is they do better with a little down time.

As far as topping the trainwreck, I would top once, at about eight set of nodes (set of new branches) then let her go. This will slow growth for a week or so and shorten the over all height a foot or two but she will be fatter. Consider the fact that you are going to need something to hold up the branches once they are full of buds while you pick out your spot. If nothing around build a support to tie to.

Yes, you certainly have an arsenal of nutrients there. If you wanna go organic dont use dutch masters, Are all those for soil or are some for hydroponics?

Some are for hydro, although I'm not even planning on doing indoor or hydro anytime soon. My friend is doing hydro, I might let him try out that dutch masters stuff if noone wants to buy it here. I've got a hookup at a local hydro store, that's why I've got all that stuff. I was thinking about using the DutchMaster liquid light. That stuff just sounds incredible and it usually costs about $200.00. Would that not be advised for an outdoor grow though??

I think I'll take your advise and give the plants a dark period. It seems like plants do need that down time and really seem to grow while they are in the dark. I've heard 20/4 is optimal for auto-flowering plants, so I might go with that schedule just for them.

Anyone have any idea how tall the Cheese plant would get in almost full sunlight all day, with ~15 gallons of Ocean Forest and a premium nute schedule?? Should I think about topping that thing twice?? I don't really want them getting much taller than 6-7 ft. They can bush out all they want though :)

Alright, I just had a little luck go my way today. I got 2 more fem'd seeds.

One is White Berry from Paradise seeds I think and the other is Lemon Skunk from DNA genetics.

Here is the question, I have ~40 gallons of Fox Farms Ocean Forest. Should I not grow the TrainWreck or Cheese and switch to the White Berry and Lemon Skunk since they are more Indica?? I'm assuming these 2 strains would yield more. Or should I just grow all of them out and just use less soil for each (about 10gallons or so a piece)??

I would go with all 4. Its just as easy to tend to 4 plants as it is two. Give them 10 gallons each they will do fine. I just got some 10 gallon smartpots I'm gonna try this year.
