I was positive and chirpy about christmas, but the family was determined to be spoiled, cranky, and ungrateful. Money's tight again this year, but that's not anything new, so I don't understand the snotty attitude all of a sudden. (mostly from my son, who is 16) We are usually VERY simpatico, and he's a great kid (young man), but jeesh. He really acted like a spoiled fuck yesterday. Very strange, and I feel sad about it.
Boyfriend worked all day on a plumbing job, and then got in a pissing match with his ex wife over a facebook post their daughter posted, so he went stomping off.
Usually we're sunnier than this -- but dang, it was weird yesterday. I sat on the couch eating crab, french bread, and brie, drinking cheap champagne. I had cats begging at my feet and my needy dog cuddled next to me. I gave it my best shot for family happiness, but I really can't change anybody, only how I react to them. If they're determined to be pissed off, I can only love them, and make myself happy.
Hopefully they'll get out of their funks. There's something refreshing about New Year's -- it's just a day like any other, but symbolically, mebbe we can trick ourselves into a fresh start, and happier head space.
