Cinder?

Has anyone mixed cinder into the soil to create more oxygen for the roots? Also if someone has used cinder what color did you use. The commercial nurseries that raise plants to be exported from Hawaii use a soil mixture of 60% peat moss and 40% black cinder for their pots for foilage.

Hey Waiakea-

You either are a really good grower or will be shortly with all the research you been doing!

I've used the regular black cinder like you see at city mill many times with good results. I've read on here that peolple say may not be good to us cinder, but people say all sort of junk on here. Large sized perlite is good too and weighs less, but is more visible.

Mahalo SurfdOut,

I know that majority of the foilage and anthurium growers use cinder for better drainage and air circulation and just thought it might be a good idea. I may try and do an experiment and find out if the results are better or worse the my current soil mix. Having 14 inches of rain in April so far, I was just trying to find drainage for the ladies.
