I been looking into this Classis Seeds guy, he sounds like hes a good ol boy jus tryin to spread the wealth. Im in, gonna score me some C99, NL#1, and the Talk of Kabul. With the Strawberry Frost and Deep Space I got comin, should make for a interesting year. Add to that the new genetics iv piked up with new clones, and im gonna be swamped. Almost a full time job.....
I've probably mentioned this but I currently have his Chemdog x Alpha Diesel x C99 cross going right now too. As soon as this journal is done, I'll pick up with that grow that's going on now. Let me know how your Classic strains turn out.

40 bucks a bag where you're at? Thats messed up!
That was an online quote which probably included shipping. Locally it's about $20/bag so that's definitely more reasonable for 10 gallons of dirt. Promix is still less expensive but it also doesn't have anything in it so it's not like those soil brands are a ripoff, just a different approach that also works well. I personally like promix because it's a blank slate. The only thing my plants get are what I feed them. Sometimes if you're working with soil, feeding with plant food can be a guessing game as we don't really know what the soil is offering and what the plant could use more of.

whats your ratio for mixing the two?
I go by feel, so maybe 30%? Vermiculite supposedly retains water but it must not retain that much as I'm still watering every 3rd day or so.

Just a quick update on that scissor hash I smoked last weekend (from plant number 1); it was potent. I don't smoke scissor hash often and I don't know that it's all that reflective of how the flowers will be, but I have noticed a correlation between the potency of the hash and the potency of the flowers (or lack thereof). I'm curing up the flowers for about 1 month before I sample so around the first week of February is when I'll start testing and handing out samples to patients for feedback.

So all the strains are chopped now which put the harvest window for these plants at 68-73 days I think? Number 1 is in a curing container while the other two are hanging. I'm giving them all a one month cure as I mentioned and will post some nug shots and yield numbers when they're dry. Yield was not my main goal on this first run, in fact, yield is rarely a priority for me when growing sativa dominant plants. Come to think of it, plant health and quality trump yield in my garden. A good yield is just something that happens if you've kept your plants happy.

Number 1 yielded 66 grams or 2.33 ounces and is curing at the moment:

Number 2 & 3 are hanging (nug shots coming in a few days):

(I don't dry in direct light as seen in this picture, there is a door that opens and covers anything seen getting direct light)

Looking good man. If I grew these out and gave them to my patients, they would whine about the fluffiness when they have no concept of how landrace sativas actually grow. The sativas grown around here for medical purpose are actually hybrids at best. Shows how arrogant and dumb people can be. I can't exactly tell them I grew this and that to prove them wrong haha.

if the weight is there and the quality is excellent. why bitch. Fluffy bags look impressive. only fit a 1/2 z in a baggy lol..

granted, i like pulling a nug out thinking its only gonna be a bowl but it breaks up into a fatty J...

I've only encountered the 'fluffy buds pot snob' on the forums as anyone who actually smokes these airy sativas usually loves them. They're usually potent, uplifting and motivating. It's just an all around fun, social buzz, IMO.

I first ask my patients what issues they're having and then I'll recommend something. 'Looks' never play a role in my recommendation as I place quality first so the medical strains I keep are always fragrant, icy and potent. Maybe your patients have associated 'weak meds' with 'fluffy' which would not surprise me at all. This cross was easy to grow only going 70 days and I have no idea how far to the sativa side the buzz leans, but near pure sativas are difficult to grow and the average grower would end up with airy schwag after 100 days of flowering. If they're pushing that on patients, no wonder they'll associate 'airy' with poor quality.

By the end of next week I should have some feedback for you folks on the plants in this journal. As soon as that's posted, I'll probably start in with Classic's Chemdog x alpha diesel x c99.

Two out of the three Chemdog-cross females are in their first week of flowering so we'll pick up with the exciting stuff her pretty soon.

I could go into exact details about each pheno here but I don't think that would be too helpful since these are individual plants. So instead I'll just do a broad overview and talk about the pheno people liked most.

Growing:

As plants, these were all vigorous, easy-to-grow, quick-flowering sativas which is not something I've come across before. Normally, sativas take some talent to grow correctly. Many growers have trouble keeping plants healthy for a short 60 day flowering period. Sativas can go 100+ days and to really do them justice, you need years of experience (read: mistakes). What I liked about these is that 70 days yielded a strong, uppity buzz that you'd expect out of a plant that would take 90 days to finish. This seems to be a cross that just about anyone could grow to experience the clearer, more energetic side of cannabis. My patient's favorite pheno actually yielded really well too and I bet she'd be a total monster outside.

Smoking:

Overall these are good sativas as they're clear/slightly stoney with a good intensity and no comedown. I didn't get any paranoia, I thought these were all pretty social/functional, and a strong buzz sticks around for around 2 hours. The phenos varied physically but the highs were pretty similar. Patients liked number 2 the most because it seemed to have the most kick. All of them had a similar incense flavor which was earthy, musty and sweet. I usually expect a 'creeper' buzz out of sativas and number two was somewhere between a creeper and something that hits immediately. She seemed to have a thought-provoking buzz that went great with music and kept you awake to get stuff done.

My favorite pheno happened to be number 3 but this is based purely on the buzz. She had a mild euphoria to her and you'd find yourself smiling for no reason just enjoying a random moment of nothing really. It's one of those mood-elevators I suppose that makes you appreciate how fortunate we are. This type of buzz reminds me of my sativa benchmark: kali mist.

Overall impression

The 3 plants I had were good sativas. I liked the power of number 2 the best and coincidentally, she was the best yielder and finished in under 70 days. She's not the best sativa that I've ever smoked, but she beats out a lot of 'em. My all-time sativa benchmark is Kali Mist and while Kali is more powerful and has a buzz that sticks around longer, this cross has a similar buzz and she's done 30 days quicker! I should add that this was the easiest sativa that I've ever grown so when you add up all the positives (yield, ease of growing, vigor, visual appeal, buzz), she's definitely worth taking a look at. Something else that's noteworthy is that my patients really enjoy number 2. I had a compliment just last night as she called it 'the thai' and wondered when more would be available. Visually, number 2 has that appeal that wont scare off your average patient as some patients don't like to see that classic airy, wispy, red-haired sativa in their medicine jar. Even though those wispy flowers could yield an experience of a lifetime, I guess some patients eat with their eyes first?

I'm keeping number 2 for a few runs and it's not that I thought I pulled her early, but I'm going to take her out to 80 days or so to see if she changes. During my first few runs with kali mist, I was pulling her at 11 weeks because she 'looked' done. Now I take her over 14 weeks and she's sooo much better than she was at 11. I'll be sure to report back on how a few extra days of flowering affects this cross.

I saw enough good things in this first run with Classic's gear that I'm anxiously waiting to pop more of his beans.

I'll be continuing this thread here with a Chemdog x Alpha Diesel x C99 grow that's already in progress.

Chemdog x Alpha Diesel x C99

We had a good stretch this past week. I tied down #4 not knowing how tall she'd get and #2 and #3 had some pruning. I wish there was more to report but that's pretty much it.

Number 2 @ day 9:

Number 3 @ day 10:

Number 4 @ day 13 (this is the stretchy pheno tied down):

We didn't get as much of a stretch as I thought we might though I could be used to growing more sativa-dominant strains that stretch for the first 30 days of flower. We've got some early signs of resin which is never a bad thing. Strong, sturdy plants so far that are maturing quickly, stick around folks!

Day 16 for plant number 2...

Day 17 for plant number 3. This is the plant that I've got my eye on. My prediction is that she'll be the most resinous come harvest time.

Day 20 for plant number 4. She is the oldest by a few days but probably has the most resin so far. Pretty impressive for just under 3 weeks!

We're about 1 1/2 months into the curing process and I pulled out a flower from my plant #2 jar last night and packed myself a bowl. I took my standard two rips from my bubbler and got to work in my garden.

Fifteen minutes in, I started to notice a numbing sensation in my head and both my heart rate and thoughts quickened. After about 25 minutes, it felt like someone was massaging my brain with their fingers and time became an impossible concept to understand. There seemed to be an 'in the moment' kind of buzz going on where I couldn't remember what I was just doing and forgot what I was about to do. I definitely noticed a more stoney component last evening, yet at no point did the buzz ever feel heavy or sedative. I remember thinking to myself that two hits from my bubbler really got me ripped, almost too ripped. I think I also noticed a tinge of paranoia as I kept hearing things and seeing things in the peripheral area of my vision that weren't there. I gotta admit, at over 3 hours into the buzz, I was peeking though the blinds last night as I was trying to go to bed, which I found it hard to do.

Last night my overall impression of plant #2 was that it's good, strong and stoney. She keeps getting better and as I keep sampling over the weeks and months to come, I'll be sure to update. My impression of this cross just jumped up a notch or two. That's something I've noticed with sativas, they're like fine wines as they really do improve with age.

Another thing to note is that my patients continue to compliment the different phenos and at the end of the day, their opinion is really the only one that matters.

Friggin' gorgeous, as usual. I like your taste; Kali Mist is my all time favorite strain. Unfortunately, I've never grown before and I don't have access to a dispensary, so I haven't had the opportunity to try the most of the strains that really caught my eye. On top of that, I'm sure I've had great genetics that were grown like shit. I can't wait to try out this CG, though.
Chocolope, Apollo 13, JTR, Herojuana, and Killing Fields are some of the "name brand" strains I need to get my hands on. What do you think of these strains? And, since I admire your skills and appetite, what other strain/s would you highly recommend?
