Claw-like tips, curling.. Pics and good info

Hi- been a while since I've dropped by and boy this place has had a make-over!

Anyhow to buisness. Since moving to indoor after my plant theft I've had 4 or 5 successful runs. A decade of growing outdoor certainly helped and I've had a good success rate so far (most importantly some big nugs).

Atm I grow in a 45litre tub, usually with a few <5l pots round the sides. I use a low-nutrient compost and add Perlie and Vermiculite- sometimes some blood, fish and bone if outdoor but not this time.
I've been trialing Avanced nutrients Super Tea Organic 2-stage which I've been happy with so far. And a few additions.
This hasn't been added yet as am waiting for nutes in soil to flush out a little as I fear that may be part of the problem.

I also add Ionic Bost during flowering as well as Root-grow myco-particles and seaweed extract when repotting.


Now I usually plant 4 plants of the same strain in the planter for a mini SoG effect.

This time I misjudged the crazy-train that is Trainwreck! God that's a fast climber!! Growing at least twice the speed of the Nebula I usually have in there on it's own!
I've had to shut-down into flower now or it's just going to get ridiculous!

You'll see I've had to snip some leaves half-way to allow light. But this isn't the main problem.

Also Im getting some curling or 'clawing' of the leaf tips (photos below).
It only seems to be affecting the Trainwreck (only one of the TR phenos looks nice anyhow).

I've had this problem to a degree before. Also slightly red stems on these plants.
I would really appreciate anyone taking a look or giving some informed advice.

I did a liquid PH test and very green (close to neutral). Also did a nitrogen test, very purple... so high amounts of ferts in soil?
I can do a Pot and Phos test with the kit if needed.

I'll have to pop by more often this place is looking great! (also included a pic of a tasty Nebula cola from last haul- fruit, bud, beer..... what more you need eh?)

over fertilized,use less or the whole leaf will get dry and die

im having the same problem on one of my plants. On that plant the fan leave stems are dark purple. Could it be something besides overfertillized because i normaly use a little less than the directions say.

when i over fert my white widow the shade leaves and the bud is dark purple

so just a good flush should clear it up?

or dont fert for a watering session,let it get used up.

i have noticed when adding extra water to flush it makes the plant get worse,some times.

Thanks guys... confirmed suspicions. I was also thinking about the sub 0.C temps in britain recently and their effect- but I've grown outdoors in some atrocious conditions so know how hardy our faviorate plant is!

I think my problem here was I used a new soil for my mix this time that was nutrient heavy... and gave a tiny solution (1ml/L)of grow as I might usually also.
This would explain the hight nitrogen content (it was pure pruple), would it exlplain the fluctuation in ph as well?

I think I will water well... the height difference will be a problem Im sure- I was almost considering a last minuite topping of one trainwreck. Im really more concerned about the Nebula, although imo they are both not the most stable of strains!

Luckily my local head store is branching into hydrophonics so I can get my hands on some soilless for next grow. I dont deliver to my house so you can expect a big overhaul on my growroom soon

BTW- has anyone known of a heart condition caused by spending alot of time/sleeping around Soil based mixes? last year I develoved nearyl 2 litres of fluid in the lining around my heart (2 litres- I know!). It was actually a close-run thing and I was in the intensive heart unit with tubes in places I really didnt want tubes :$

Then recently I jumped when someone said they'd heard of a similar case while listening to a gardening programme on the radio about a man who spent all summer in his greenhouses and had contracted a similar thing.

It's Viral in nature- indeed the nurse asked if id been anywhere exotic; I think my returned expression answered her question

Anyway think I may start a thread of it's own... I still have a soil planter in my room and will have for the coming months.

No ive never heard of that, scary shit. Hope your ok and the doctors figure it out. Definately need to get away from the soil and start some hydro.

Oh btw I have had no colouring problems and have had none. not a single yellow tip, or incorrect shade of green.... Just still the curls. It may be a little better- growth leaves that had curl now dont.

I've seen it a good few times before on a smaller scale and it's just evened out after a while but this is affecting some larger leaves, all around the middle of the plant- the tops are looking fine so Im not too worried.
It must have been the change of soil when hitting the planter as they've basically had no feed. I'm wary of doing too big a flush as this could just give them a big nute-bath

Also note the Nebula are completely unaffected- not a curl in sight *shrug*

Any ideas on approaching the height difference in a planter like that? I cant believe the speed of the Trainwreck it is dwarfing the others! God I wish I'd done all same strain again. I've had to take the drastic step of removing a couple big fan leaves from the wilder TW that I had halved before.

I've thought about leaning it over and angling the light... it's far too late for any topping unless I sacrificed part of the wild TW. Perhaps time to remove the shade and hang bulb down a little?

It's all left me wondering about the Trainwreck's genetics growing at that speed. I know it's a couple of Humbolt strains but damn is it a fast plant to Veg so god knows whats in there!

You could try bending it over, bruise the node at the height you want and bend it over and tie that bad boy down. The added bonus id you'll be getting light to parts of the cola that weren't before. JUst a suggestion.
