Cleaning Bongs With Alcohol

Has anyone else by any chance noticed the altered taste and harshness you get from smoke, after cleaning your bong?

That is when you clean it with alcohol or listerine in combination with an aggregate like salt mix or rice.

I've found with a few bongs, whether glass or plastic, that immediately after the 1st time I clean with such a solution, the bong permanently tastes harsh like im smoking alcohol or something, and it makes me really not want to use the bong. Listerine makes it even worse with the whole mint business.

Has anyone else experienced this??

More importantly, does anyone have a better home made solution?

I use 99% Isopropyl alcohol with a generous amount of salt to clean all my glass, and I have never noticed a change in taste.
I always give my bong a thorough rinse with a drop of dish soap after using the alcohol and I have never had any weird tastes.

The government poisons rubbing alcohol so you can not consume it. Be sure to rinse it out real good. If you do not get all the resin out of the bong I thing the alcohol soaks in there and whatever product you use to clean it is still in the bong, then you are constantly inhaling it.
I use a natural product called citra-solv. It's orange extract citric acid and is all natural, you can find it in most health food stores. I try to get my stuff completely clean but if a little is left in there I think it's better than using a harsh chemical..Just my 2 ..JR

i never clean my bong. i think they hit smoother when they are well seasoned. i know most here wll prolly disagree.

I use dawn foaming dish soap, it cleans it fast and leaves no tatse, specially if you rinse it REALLY well or pop in in the dish washer afterward for a follow up and rinse again.

Yeah I know a guys that dont clean theirs
I dont get high off it and I dont bother partaking if it is from theirs, I just roll one or not at all, its gross period really.

Your getting mold n that thing, u can cure syphilis LOL:bigjoint:

Noone just boils anymore?

I...well the wife... has a large stock pot, holds about three gallons. I get it boiling, set it on the little tray deal, and lower it in. Keep a handfull of washcloths in there to in case it tips or something. Get a handled glass scrub brush to get in a scrub.



As for the OP, he has something wrong going on. If you rinse properly. you should have no problems.

I believe not much can live in regularly changed bong water

even though it is a toxic drug mixture.

Ethanol is denatured with just enough methanol to avoid paying taxes.

the first bong after its been cleaned always tastes like crap. having said that we never used to use alcohol to clean the bong just soapy hot water and a scrubbing brush.
anyway we always tried to give the first fresh bong to someone who didnt know it been cleaned

lol i remember when my mate stuck a proper filthy bong into his mums brand new dishwasher it still had plates and cutlery in it. we were in the garage smoking when his mum scream what the fuck have you done to my dishwasher.
lol everything had shitty film of gakk on it. me mate spent rest of the day scrubbing out the dishwasher and all the effected plates and stuff
several hours later it was all clean so they filled it up with plates and stuff. when the cycle had finished everything was covered in the gakk again there must have been some left in the pipes lmao

lol we weren't allowed to smoke there for a couple of weeks after that

Well I dont let mine get like that b4 putting it in there, ALSO I ment when it was already clean, just to get a good rinse, the dawn is hard to get lal of it off so I do it that way.

Dishwasher wont clean your piece becasue the gunk is not water soluble.

LOL that does suck, yeah hot soappy water is the BEST

wtf?..i always use salt and alcohol and never once had a harsh taste after cleaning!..it always taste 10 times better!!!..just make sure u rinse real good after cleaning!!!

Just wash it in soap after you clean it with alcohol. The alcohol takes out the tar, but may leave a residue, the soap wash will take care of after.
