How often do you guys change out your hydroton? Is this just for at the end of your grow or do you change it out while the plant is still growing?

try fine-mesh laundry baskets in your bathtub.

do you change the dirt halfway through a grow?

Buy more hydroton...(just being honest) still needs a cleaning, just not as intense.
sometimes i wonder how much these "just buy a new one" guys spent growing thier dope?

and what do you do with all your old clay if you constantly replace it?

when you buy new hydroton all you have to is rinse it really good to get the dust off of them correct? my 50l bag is showing up today in the mail.

poke holes in the bottom of the 50L bags and a small hole at the top .. feed the hose in the top hole and turn the water on high and let sit and rinse for 5 to 10 minutes.. rocks are clean..
if used .. pour rock in a large sturdy rubbermaid tub etc.. fill with water then add about a cup of bleach .. let them sit for an hour then pour it into same size container with salt and pepper shaker holes in the bottom to drain water.. then wash with clean water..
when they soak in bleach, stir them around and all the leaves and roots etc will float to the top .. pic all that out when you see it.. then agian when you fill your trays and buckets..

agreed, bleach has no business in a grow op. hydrogen peroxide will kill and turn into water, bleach is forever.

bleach.. not bleech.. and whoever said ajax in the resi.. is totally gay.. 1 part bleach to 9 parts water is isnt going to harm your plants .. rinse well and dry before use.. been doing this forever.. some people on here are so nick nack.. oh no "bleech" dust particals .. run and hide... get real.. the fine mesh hole laundry basket idea kinda gave me a boner though..

you could probably be just fine using a 10% bleach solution. but bleach does leave a permanent residue and h2o2 kills just the same as bleach, costs similarly, and breaks down into plain old water in a matter on hours when exposed to air and light.

it just seems safer to me, but im glad what works for you works for you.:leaf:

exactly.. h202 kills benificial microbes and enzymes.. in my opinion it has no place in the grow room..and i never said i use bleach "in" the grow room..

h202 works fine. i dont understand how people can sy it doesn't, there is ample scientific logical proof availiable as well as countless journals of people using it. It is incompatible with organi nutes, and if you add it you have to keep adding it so that pythium can't grow super fast with no competition. But it does work and is perfectly aceptable and very effective.

i used to totally agree with the first part. then i started some DWC and found it better to eliminate the benificial beasties and use h2o2. i use benificial organisims and organic nutes in my rockwool/clay mix and keep the h2o2 far away from that.

you said use bleach to clean the clay, then i assume you would bring the clay(complete with bleach residue) into the grow room. but like i said, if it works for you thats great. but cleaning your hydroton wit h2o2 instead of bleach gets the same results without toxic chemicals

the last part puzzles me? i can only assume your talking about my "aura", something i first of all dont believe in. secondly, your reading my posts...how can you read my "energy"

I've got a 5 gallon plastic bucket with a snap-on lid that I drilled holes in. I put my hydroton in the bucket, fill it with water, swish it around, close the lid and pour out the dirty water, then repeat about 5 times. Then I use a large colander and hand wash whatever is left on the hydroton, off. I never pour the water down the drain cuz I have a septic tank.

hmm .. so no subculture or great white for you will.. other that that i agree with you.. h202 does have its place in the industry... probably more that 50% of hydro farmers use it.. no doubt. ill start using peroxide instead of bleach on my rock.. but im still using the 10% bleach solution to clean walls floors etc.. so i do use it in my gdub.. and no dude you aura is purple

i know a guy who says he uses h2o2 w/ dutch advanced, i think they say its incompatible because they want you to use thier Zone. Dutch is good stuff, ive used it. once again, too expensive for me. try thier liquid light and penetrator folar program, i still use it and love it.
