Cleaning moldy/mildewy equipment?

Hi, I recently bought a room of Dimlux lamps off a guy and when I received them, I get hit with a strong musty diseased smell as soon as the saran wrap was peeled off each box. The lamps, cords the box and everything has the strong rot/stagnant smell and burns my eyes like the one time I tried smoking grey bud rot years ago. I've been wiping power cords down with alcohol to no avail, the smell is maintaining in the plastic, and the reflector vents are full of white dust after supposedly just 2 cycles.

Anyone here ran into a problem like this? I didn't save enough money to make it worth all this! The idiot wrapped each ballast in old shop rags and towels that smell like they were dipped in death water. Its making me sick and my eyes are dry and burning. I'll probably have a respiratory infection by morning. How can a room ever get this dirty? Could he not smell something going bad wrong for weeks? Failed automation? The lamps also came with extra 120v cords, which the Dimlux never mentions operating less than 240. Should I just sue this guy? I'm not bringing these anywhere near my room to find out if they even work until I can get every speck of dust and every trace of rotten leafy stagnant pond smell out of them. Anyone know for sure what this smell is? A resi gone anaerobic and busted dripper? No ventilation? He claimed he was moving and thats why he was selling. Yeah right.

Thanks for any suggestions. I just don't realy feel like stripping down a dozen amps to find out I have no idea what to clean them out with. Yes I'm a clean freak I've never had mold/mildew on my property before, I'm heavily sensitive to it.

The truth is that this guy sold off his old worn out equipment because he couldn’t get rid of powdery mildew, Botrytis, and the mother of all Russet mite infestations.


Burn it with fire.

So he had them wrapped in rags and covered in plastic .... great lol. The smell and mould will now be inside the ballast's and trapped. Spraying everything with a strong peroxide solution will remove the outside shit but I would say with your sensitivities you should trash it and ya sure, try sueing the guy but I'm pretty sure it's a "buyer beware" thing .

I’m getting ready to go at my tents and walls of my room with a 10% bleach solution.

4000 ml water (1 gal) and 400ml of bleach.

sans the law suits and drama...
maybe he stored those boxes of unused shit in a damp area all wrapped up for the move and the mildew got to the cardboard=more likely than mold growing on metal lights in a grow room.

clorox makes a spray bleach as a no brainer for this type of cleaning, and warm soapy water with bleach would be fine too.

if you cant read the words on the back of the bleach bottle

then I'd go for this instead, yes, spray once, wipe 10x would work with it.

Bro, I’m a single dude. I don’t use products like bleach. I use water and paper towels to clean.

you asked for mixing ratio's right? there right there on the back of the bleach bottle. you should consider reading a grow bible putting together a grocery list and become fully equipped to battle these types of issues. we all have a bottle of bleach on hand

Just checked the label again, still no directions on cleaning my marijuana grow room.

Where do you get your bleach from?

dude, are you from earth? bleach is sold at every hardware, grocery store on the planet. do you wash your clothes, ever?

do you really believe laundry bleach bottle would list marijuana grow room cleaning instructions?
the label clearly shows you how to mix bleach with water to clean . splash some fucking bleach in a cup and add some frikken water already, and start cleaning. water kills mold. soap kills mold. oil kills mold. for the love of shiva

Rent or buy an ozone generator. That will go places you can never reach with bleach.
