Clone question

I started from a seed. I have a mother now. Lets say I keep making clones and new mothers from that original seed. Do these clones ever loose any potency/yield over time? How long can you grow a strain for? Does anything change over time genetically?

Some people say that you lose potency but I think thats bs. I think it might be possible for the new clones to lose some of their vigorous growth. They say seeds always grow a lot faster than clones but who knows

technically it wouldnt be a clone if it lost potency......a clone is an exact replica.....basically like a twin but more exact

Is it possible to clone a mother in the flowering stage? Would the clone continue to grow OK if raised in 12/12 light so as not to screw it up?

I missed my chance in the veggie stage, and am now a good 1/2 way through flowering. Thanks for the help.

You can clone from a flowering plant, but it will usually take longer to root, and may throw out deformed growth for a while after it does, depending how far into flower you are.

One thing you don't want to do however, is raise it in 12/12. Go 24/0 until it starts showing normal vegetative growth.

Another option you have is to re-veg the original plant after you have harvested it.

This thread has nothing to do with flowering! I was talking about cloning. I'm also under the impression a clone (exact replica) would be the same over time. As far as which grows faster, who cares unless your using feminized seeds right? You have to get rid of males if you use regular seeds and that is extra time and work!

Seeds seem to grow quicker, then clones. Just my experience, but I prefer clones So I do not have to buy seeds Yes they are exact replica, but I like to replace my mothers once in a while.

Sorry, I was just replying to the other guy's Q. To answer your original question, a clone is just that. A genetically identical copy of the plant it was taken from. They don't lose potency over time (may not be exactly true, but true enough for practical purposes), and you could take clones off clones off clones, and not notice the difference.

The only time you will notice the difference, eventually, is if you take a clone, then flower/reveg it, then take a clone, which you flower and reveg, and repeat the process. This is because the flowering process weakens the genetics. As long as your clone has never seen a flowering cycle, either from itself, or the plant it was taken from, you will be fine.

Clone time also depends on your cloning technique. I was planning on changing my mother often to keep root mass down. I'm keeping my mothers in a dwc and flower/veg in ebb and flow.
