How important is it to gradually increase the pot size with clones? I get that clones have no tap root. I'm planning on going from a water bottle size medium to a 3 gallon pot. Is that too big of a jump? I mean... I know it will work either way... just... well it's already been asked. Do I really need to gradually increase pot size with clones? and... Is moving from a water bottle size growing medium to a 3 gallon pot too big of a jump?

hi mate

That is a fine increase, I usealy root my clones in rock wool than plant straight into 3 gal pots 1 week veg than flower works every time just fine:).

what matters is that you not assume that because the whole pot is wet your clone is wet
when you put a fresh clone into a 3 gallon bucket, even though you water it in the roots can't reach a good portion of that water
if your soil doesn't wick well - ffof, etc - you need to give a small amount of water daily like a seedling
in pre nuted soils this can easily burn plants, as you release ferts each time you water
its nothing to do with tap roots
its to do with soil aridity/salt buildup type crap
short answer is - yes you can go into 3 gallon pots with a freshly rooted clone
