Clones took off! Close up pics, purple stem and tight node topping question

Hey guys, almost 3 weeks after taking clones from a mother plant that was gifted to me they have finally rooted well and taken off in growth.

4 of the 5 i believe are ready to be transplanted in the 1 gallon smart pots i have, 1 in the back is a runt i suppose. 2 questions though, i would like to top the plants before transplant as i plan to lst them to keep height to a minimum, but the node growth is so damn tight as seen in the pics, can i literally snip the main stem just above the last set of highest nodes on each plant? No minimum ammount of stem has to be left above the nodes?

Also youll notice my stems on all 5 plants are almost completely purple, im not sure if its the strain or sign of trouble, i give a dose of calmag along with the GH flora series nutes I feed them. Should i be increasing decreasing anything?

as for the question about topping, you can top them where you want, there's no requirement for x amount of height above a top.
as far as i know, purple stems isn't really a problem either..

Zero clue on the strain, moved into this house earlier this year and my only close neighbour gave me a clone as sort of a house warming, he didnt know the strain, although he bought the seeds at a seedbank so youd think he would remember

Best to top just after lights on or just before lights off?

i don't think it matters either way, but after lights off would probably give them a bit of a break from the lights, and a chance to recover before making them do any kind of work via photosyntheis, and might cut down on stress a little bit.. this is just what i'm thinking, no real proof either way tbh..

and they look to be nice and sativa dom, which is why i said blue dream, i've grown the santa cruz cut, and what you got there looks to be pretty close to the blue dream i've grown.. super thin leaves, etc..
is this your first grow?

you could also try a fim on one of them, and top the second and see which one you like best..
fim is much like a top job, only you don't cut off the entire top growing bit of the plant like you do with a top.. you can google or youtube videos on each.. each one will give you different amount of growing tops..
also, it depends on the node you top as to how many tops the plant will now have as a dominant top.. check out uncle bens topping thread on where to top to get either say 2 or 4 or 6 tops.. or you could always try and top one and fim another like i said, and compare the results so you will know which method you prefer.. playing around with them a bit at this stage can be fun, and a great tool for learning, in which you can always apply to any future grows, so long as you don't mess up too much that is, lol..

Yes sir first grow, other than the mother clone these came from that was placed in the garden (in june) as I had to talk the wife into letting me do this, which only make sence with all the money you can save not having to buy for 2 regular smokers

Ive got this veg cabinet with 6 23w 6500k cfls (have 60w 6500's aswell I may use) and a flowerring tent which is 2x4x5 that will run 14 t5 bulbs. Hoping for decent harvests.

Ive orderred northern lights fem seeds, first order got seized by customs, hoping the new shipment arrives anyday, but Id like to see what I can learn from this grow first since these clones actually took off, I was very skeptical the first 2 weeks they werent looking so hot, 15 days later they started growing pretty quick!

cool, and i agree, growing is much cheaper than having to buy it from a dealer, especially from where i'm at.. to be honest, that's exactly why i started to grow in the first place.. was getting some pretty killer weed from a co-worker, but at pretty killer prices as well.. i figured, wth, i can probably grow just as good for way cheaper, and that's exactly what happened.. haven't looked back yet.

she it, the only reason i was replying was because i thought that way you in your avatar picture.. pmsl, of course i'm kidding. good luck with the grow, and if you run into any issues, don't be afraid to ask for help..

Appreciate the help, its 2am and i was sick of reading so i went ahead and topped 3 plants, believe i successfully fim'd one, and left the runt alone. Gave them a drink to, they dry out in less than 2 days which is why I think im due for transplant

We will see how they take to these techniques before i repot them though

Any more insight on the purple main stems? Is it a concern with them being so small

Did you remember to drill drain holes in the bottom of the solo cups?
