I was just fucking thinking about that a few hours ago!!! Are you a reptilian? HA. I've seen people say that some OG Kush varieties take up to 30 days to root- fucking nightmare!! I haven't grown many OG's, it truly is really, really good smoke but a bit over rated and there's so much more exotic things out there... I have the Buddha Tahoe OG though, I made sure to order specifically to get some good freebies, Buddha Tahoe being one of them. I have also claimed to be "starting it soon" several times over the course of the last few months, ha. There's a crazy long thread about "Cali Connection Buddha Tahoe OG" on here somewhere.
 
I did a similar experiment and found that clonex when fresh and kept refrigerated worked the best at 4 days and Replicator came in second at 5 days. All the others were much longer. Though I have not tried honey it sounds like a cool one to try.

The line with root emergence is clonex and this pic was taken at day 4.

Honestly if you want faster rooting times you need an autocloner. I used to spend 3 weeks cloning too in the old humidity dome.

It's closer to like 82 right now, prob a little cooler on the floor. Lowering the temp more is not really an option/possible until weather permits.

I hear ya on the roots, im hoping they drink up what i watered the cubes with and do some growing in the process.

#1 get ur lazy but over to osh.. but a 3 gallon bucket and lid.. and small aquarium pump.. maybe 50-80 GPH (gallons per hour)

#2 now get ur but over to harbor freight and buy a chheap set of plastic/wood hole bits.. they will be invaluable to you in this hobby. and theres no reason to get the metal hole bits cause we will be using plastic containers

#3 off t the dollar store to get a floating pool noodle... ya know the long pool toys... there is your neoprene inserts.. lol 100 for $1

i made more clones lastnight... you wana RACE AZCANNA???

That wouldn't be fair unless both of you were growing clones from the same mommy, or at least from the same strain..

Okay so I burned the little girls just a tiny bit. Let me explain, I have been only watering the media very sparingly, mostly from over spray of the mist. Having it too wet is detrimental to getting the cuts to root. So for the last 24 hours i have not misted them and kept a close eye letting everything dry out but not to the point of stressing or wilting any of them.

An extremely gentle tug on a few random cuts yesterday seems to reveal they all have at least some roots; just none showing on the outside of the cube yet.

So in order to help bring the roots out I let the plugs dry most of the way out, and did not mist for 24 hours so they would be really thirsty. Then I fed them with a rooting solution from the bottom of the plugs letting them wick up the rooting solution. I mixed it a bit heavy with Rhizotonic the equivalent of 20ml/gal which is a little beyond the max dosage (15ml/gal) Canna recommends for rooting. I'll post below about the Rhizo... Anyway 10ml of the Rhizo, and 1ml of A & B each into 1/2 gal of water, a few drops of CALiMAGic for Mg Ca and Fe then PH accordingly.

Fed them this morning, they seem to have a tiny bit of nute burn now. The tips where they were cut have been perfectly lush and green.

Do you think this means they have roots which will be busting out soon? I do!

There is some nice bright green new growth in the center of most of them as well...

Dude, those are totally rooting. Not just rooting, growing. The roots on these genetics are SLOW.

You see that bit of burning? I call it 'rooting stress.' That's when the little buggers are concentrating on establishing roots, so they feed on themselves slightly above ground. I'm used to seeing that on PO cuts when they're rooting.

And all rooted cuts I've seen from PO have come with a little dead leaf action due to rooting stress. The little one that stalled did not have ANY dead leaf matter on it when I brought it home.

Time is money, the main reason i am not building one is the PVC Cutters and glue. I have no foreseeable reason i would need them again and even at harbor freight i bet it would be $20 or more for just those 2 items. Now sure I could use a leather glove from the yard and a hacksaw blade, but as you called all too well im too lazy for all that shit LOL. I have a tendency to go overboard with projects like this too. So i'd have spent maybe $10 on a tote and another $10 on bed/wheel well liner. Plus the cutters, and glue, now lets not forget at least 3 T's, a length of PVC, 4 caps, maybe some 90's, a valve or 2 to prevent pump pressure lock (i said i go overboard), spray nozzles, etc. We wont even get into the cost of a 2" hole cutter, even a Chinese one will be a few bones.

WAYYYYYYY over $20 for me to build one personally, but i do appreciate you trying to save me some coin. Had I had the cutters and glue already I probably would have built one. Since i don't plan to do anything else with PVC anytime, that I can think of in the future I couldn't justify the cost of those things for this 1 little project.

I think we're on the same page here Jin, hopefully that Rhizo watering was the trick. I wouldnt be the least bit surprised if the only thing this experement reveals is what you use does not matter at all.

Whether it be $24 rooting gel or $4 rooting powder, or hell even just plain honey, or if your really destitute nothing whatsoever. At this point i wouldnt be surprised to see them all root about the same time. Now I will say I think if they did all take at the same time some would be likley better rooted than others, possibly giving us a winner...

No PVC, cutters, or glue needed for what SF mentioned. Bucket with lid($3), cut 15 holes with this: http://midhardware.com/hardware/product_info.php?products_id=5478425 and add foam inserts($1), fill with plain water, add pump($8 ) airstone($2) and clones. $17, no recurring costs.

I'm not trying to debate methods or anything, just pointing out it isnt more expensive up front done the way he said, and definitely not in the long run. Now on with those roots!

You forgot the air pump & line, i'll give you the line though as I have some laying around lol.

But what sprays the roots? The popping bubbles from the stones? That just seems kinda weak compared to the sprayers...

not to be argumentative but i dont glue anything in there... i just sit the pump in and let her rip the mistng action from it splashin in the bucket seem to be enough D/O in the water that way... heres a pic of the current setup. nosprayer or nothin.. just a pump and bucket like i said..
the hole bits were 13 bucks i think..
i have a tray an dome and used it exclusively for about a year maybe alil longer before i built my cloning bucket it just is faster and get better success rates out of it i have no interest in having to check the clones 3-4 times a day mist for optimal humidoime conditions.. i refuse to be a slave to my garden... i just wanna cut em and come back to plant them.. maybe if the water looks mucky ill go dump it and put some new TAP WATER IN.. i dont ph or anything..

To people who think its amazing I call it a cloning Machine... to make it technical and all... lol

Ah i thought you meant water pump by that one. So that would be more of a DWC cloning method though instead of Aero Cloning. Not that that's bad, just a different setup.

I want the one with all the fancy sprayers and shit though LOL

The extra $60 isn't that big of a deal considering how much the rest of everything costs. Hell the one with the sprayers may not even work better, but i'll sleep better at night :mrgreen:bongsmilie:eyesmoke:
 
No roots as of yet.... Got an email back from PO, they don't dip them in any sort of gel or powder to root them! hahahahahaha

Props to Cali Closet Grower for suggestion of the cuts with nothing on them, although at this point they are all still tied! Also to Mike91sr for the first comment regarding using nothing on them to root them!

They also said that the rockwool is preferable but the Root Riots should work fine also. ( I could have guessed they would say that considering their cuts come in RW cubes)
Another interesting tidbit he threw in there... "It should not take you more than 15 days, if it does, your clones will have genetic deficiencies and that's not something you should condone!"

So if these cuts are not rooted within the next 5 days then this is obviously entirely the wrong way to go about things... Also they didnt mention using a dome...or shaving the skin of the stem... I think i'll take the dome off and see what happens. Should help the cubes dry out quicker and speed things along... Hopefully everything stays perky...

I've never heard of a genetic deficiency... they could say that that would be contributing to undesirable traits but nobody mentioned breeding. The Cali Connection claims that "some OG's just take nearly 30 days to root...", to me that just makes them undesirable but they grow normally as soon as they get rooted. Some strains don't even have a rooting trait in their genes and wouldn't root even if you put magic dust on the stems.

You can also make rooting hormone from willow tree flowers & bark. Old ladies and farmers have used it to clone tomatoes and other such things for generations a many. It's definitely the cheapest, most abundant, renewable rooting medium, I've seen people use it on cannabis as well. I never tried it myself though.

Props to you and yr bucket system man... I've been looking for the perfect tub that's high enough but my local shop wants like 40 bux for a suitable tub, and I was thinking of using a bucket and lid like yrs coz thy are only 5 bux at the shop... so thanyou for cementing that idea, might head down the shops now :D
 
i dont think that you should take off the dome if they dont have roots, i think theyll dry out too fast... not the plugs, but the leaves/cuts themselves wont be in a high humidity environment, wich they need to root.
