Cloning main stem

Can it be done, I have heard conflicting answers.

I broke my plant clean in two, have had the broken piece in water for a few days already, It looks great, am I wasting my time or will it eventually root?

It will root, but If there are a lot of leaves on that thing you should cut it down or trim the leaves in half or use wilt spray or make a couple clones out of it instead of one or something. And it won't root in water as well as they would in rockwool cubes or better yet peat pellets. (Or coconut coir, but I haven't tried that yet)

4 leaves alternating sides. It looks great after 5 days of sitting in a mild nutrient/water solution. I didnt want to trim the leaves as I thought it would take a lot longer to root that way if the plant is wasting valuable energy trying to heal itself rather than root. I guess another 4 or 5 days wont hurt, if still nothing and it looks good I will take other measures.

Thanks for the fast response. many have told me they have never been successful cloning a main stem. Maybe a little beginners luck will prevail.

I'm looking at a clone from a main stem right now.
Damn thing did take a long time to root and start growing though.

I'll tell you when i chopped my plant, for S&G i put it in a glass of water with Oliva's gel in it, and it rooted, but the temp hit like 120 in the room that day, so it died...

I've also heard that sometimes its just REALLY REALLY hard to get it to root properly on the main stem... but i have got it to happen before...

Good thing I have nothing but time. LOL

The other half of the plant that broke is taking on a life of its own. In 5 days It has grown 4 inches, and double that because what was once one main stem is now two. I like to think of it as a very violent topping and hopefully cloning method. (10 cfls and a fixture along with a 9 inch turbo fan dropped from about 4-5 feet in the air)

After that little episode, my room could be hit by a 9.8 earthquake now and I am confident all would be where I left it.
